My toilet just erupted!!!
The weirdest thing just happened. I'm sitting at my computer, and all of a sudden I hear this "blub blub blub" sound coming from my bathroom. So I think, "what the heck!?" so I go in there and bubbles are coming out of the water in my toilet(no, it wasnt gross, there was no human waste involved). Then, after about 30 seconds of the blub blu blub type of bubbles, my toilet starts to fill up with what seems to be soap sudds!!!!!!! Then my bathroom sink starts doing the same thing!!!! Both stop right before they are about to overflow. This is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. If there are any plumbers out there, could someone please help me to figure out what the heck just happened!?!? Did aliens just take over my bathroom or what?

Maybe you should start bathing in your neighbors bathroom now. |

Chances are your drain is blocked going out to the street, (or septic depending on which you have) I've had very similar effect with rain backing up my drains (very messy in the basement) but it did smell lemony fresh from the soap =]
try draino or foaming plumber might be better, if that's a no go, try using a snake where you main plumbing stack goes down (If it's black PVC there should be a cover that you can open)
Also I take it this sink and toilet are in the basement or the lowest floor of the house?

Don't know if your on sewer or septic, but either way, sounds like your going to be needing to rent a drain snake in the near future. In my experience your better to do it now rather then wait. It will most likely get worse.
Happy Plumbing.

yes they are in the basement. and i have a septic tank. the house is very old, like it was built in the 50's. it was a state of the art house then, probably cost now what would equal at least 7 or 800'000$, but it has its problems here in almost 2002.

Wait 2 days
Break out the camera and watch, see what happens
Or yeah you could take all our entertainment away and snake it too *sigh* lol

How long has it been since you had your tank emptied?

Same thing happens in the wet bar in my basement whenever the laundry is finished and the washer drains. No problems, just a slightly faulted plumbing layout that was never remedied...
I'm not too sure what sort of septic system you have. Here, we're on a residential septic system, meaning that solids go into the septic tank and liquids go into a central sewer system. It doesn't really have any benefits, other than the fact that you only have to empty the tank once every year or two.
