Am I an insomniac ??
It's 2 in the morning here....... I'm just now going to bed.....
I'll get up at 7:30 and that is my USUAL routine. I'm kind of wondering if that's a bad thing. 5-1/2 hours sleep a day..... but that's my norm. Been that way for a couple years now......... is that bad for me ??
One thing to note is that my job used to be alot of manual labor and was physically demanding, I needed 8 hrs sleep....... job changed, and isn't physically demanding, and now I don't get sleepy as quick......

5 hours isn't too bad, crouse. The worst thing is that sleep you get after midnight is supposedly less restful. So, if you feel a bit rundown, that might be why.
But just because 8 hours is considered a normal stretch of sleep, doesn't mean everyone needs 8 hours. Some can get away with a lot less, or need a lot more.
Are you an insomniac? No. An insomniac is one who can't sleep when they try. You just doen't seem to need much ATM.
Just watch for feeling irritable and listless, rundown. That might be a signal you need more sleep and more exercise.
Cheers
Mick

| Gee thanks Mick, you just described my life.
5.5 hours a night.... I could only wish for that much sleep!
I would offer a detailed opinion of this topic, but I am already a certified insomniac, just search for the word "sleep" in the community forum.
When you reach my level, then you can can complain about not sleeping.
On a a serious note, your change in job tasks is the defining difference. If you will add a few minutes of exercise to your daily routine, you will likely find you sleep pattern will return to "normal."

It is certainly not insomniac class, and perfectly liveable... my gf (well, recent ex), lives on 5 - 5 1/2 hours every night monday-sunday. Has done for 3 years now.
Everyone has a limit... and mine is a good 6 hours |

My average is around 5 hours/night...I wake up each morning tired as hell, promising myself that I'm going to get more sleep. Never happens though, I get sucked into computerland or a special "guest" comes over to visit.

I get about five to six hours sleep during the week, but if I don't get at least seven hours on either Saturday or Sunday, I tend to get pretty run down during the next week. I know they say you can't catch up on sleep, but you can at least get rested.

Quality sleep is more reliable as a determination needed than the number of hours. It is my understanding that the REM state of sleep (sound and deep) is required to reinvigorate the system (bodily and mentally) to optimal functioning. Number of hours varies for the person and between persons and depends on the individual's need. I have read dreams are important to mentally work-off stress and keep one mentally healthy.
I have taken elaval (only 50 meg) for many years and my sleep is very sound and reliable with a consistant duration of about 7 hours and after awaking I feel fully rested.
To sleep lightly or go without sleep for a few days may put one into a deep sleep eventually, but there may be a problem if one coninues to only sleep lightly.
