Puts me in mind of my old bike - 1973 Raliegh Competition. Has everything you described, including the Reynolds 531 double-butt tube fluted ultralight frame, full Campy gear & hubs, etc. No kickstand, just balance it on a toeclip! I've still got it, still in perfect condition. Hasn't been ridden in over a decade, but it
has been lubed & waxed, that black finish looks like new! Mothballed it when I started driving & didn't ride again till my kids were old enough... by then it was already a classic!
Believe it or not, I found a description & pic of it - or nearly anyway.
This one's a '74 but looks identical, some equipment differences.
Regarding more modern bikes, we've got GT's now, but not mountain bikes. Cross bikes, mixture of on & off road features. Large wheels, wider than road bikes but narrower than mntn bikes. Durable w/o the rough ride, they're great for riding gravel or dirt trails.
Regardless what style you want, used is the way to go. Be sure to check out pawn shops as a source also. Some of those shops seem to think "a bike is a bike" and $50- $100 will buy one...
Hey, I just remembered - if you want a nice road bike, I've got a really good Schwinn I'd like to sell. 14 speed, 23" frame, 27" wheels, flat handlebars. Can't remember the model, but this was NOT one of their cheapies! Was mine in between the Raliegh & the GT's, so it's around 14-15 yrs old & was used for less than 5 yrs. I'd let it go for $200 plus shipping, will take pics if you're interested.
The Raleigh, however, is NOT for sale!!!
