Do I Feel Stupid or What!!??

A little over a week ago the auxiliary input of my 11 month old Sony 40" Wega TV crapped out. "No Signal Input" Was switching from twin view watching AL and NL division playoffs and all of a sudden the picture disappeared from Aux.

Went through all the troubleshooting stuff in the book and no luck. Called Sony and scheduled a warranty call figuring that a circuit board blew out.

Guy shows up today and after one minute says "Let's see what happens when I push the antenna button. Whammo!!! Fixed. The antenna button switches from cable to antenna and vice-versa. Who uses an antenna on a $3K TV?

You would think that in 11 months I would have pushed this button on the remote and saw what happened. Nope!

Told the guy: "Boy don't I feel like a dumb $h*#!."

He says: "Don't worry about it, happens all the time."

That made me feel a whole lot better!

Bill

Wonder if the trouble-shooting section in the manual would have pointed you in that direction.

How did the button get pushed in the first place?? Is it on the remote or on the tv somewhere?

hehe, reminds me of once in the USAF in Greece...we had a troubleshooting call for a radio...drove the 50 miles to the site....I walked around the corner...looked at the radios...and started laughing....of like 6 radios....5 had the front panel "key" switch in the "remote" position, and one lonely machine had it in the "local" position...guess which one didnt work. If you knew the setup you would think it as funny as your snafu...they were supposed to always be in "remote"...the only reason they would be in "local" is if someone physically stood in front of the machine with a microphone.....so obviously one of the bonehead guys on the site did a radio check or something and left it in the wrong position. Hey, at least your antenna thingy stays at home...when you do something like that in the Air Force...in a tight community...hehe, EVERYBODY knows..foreign bartender downtown laffs at you when you walk in the bar, dudes on your NEXT base somehow know when you arrive! lol.

Wasn't there.

And I have no idea how I pushed it. Tried to duplicate what I "thought" I did and wasn't able to. Damn button is right next to the input button. Guy said my finger probably rolled of input and hit antenna.

I did something similar once. I had been ay my job in Bridgewater only a month or two when one of the professors had a problem with a multi-media cart, which was basically a rolling stand with a laptop and projector on it. The laptop was in a special case that had all the plugs on the outside. Everything was plugged in, but there was no internet connection. I played with it for a while and finally gave up and called campus IT. They asked me if the laptop was connected properly and I assured them it was. So they sent out a tech. He's there two minutes and pulls the laptop out away from the case it was in and there is the network cable laying there inside the case, connected to the case, but not to the laptop.

DOH!

I felt like a dope. But the tech and I became good friends and even had our own consulting business on the side. So it wasn't all bad.

Cheer up, Bill. It happens to the best of us.

Indeed. I have some similar stories, but I'll be darned if I'm gonna put 'em up here. I'm enough of a knothead as it is.

BTW, can you help me out? My computer is warm, I think the firewall is acting up!

How hot can a firewall get before you need to be concerned?

As usual, Google to the rescue. Found this on hot firewalls.
