In case anybody's interested in where the Republican Party is going,

Here's the official 2000 Platform of the Texas Republican Party.

Abolish the income and inheritance tax, privatize Social Security, teach Creationism in the public schools, criminalize homosexuality, take jurisdiction over Bill of Rights issues away from the Supreme Court, take back the Panama Canal, ban abortion, abrogate any treaties that limit US sovereignty, repeal the minimum wage, quit the UN (and stiff it for what we owe), return to the gold standard... and lots more.

Punctuation and spelling errors aside, this is a frightening document. I was surprised at this:
Quote:
Personal Confidentiality – The Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution guarantees the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures and that this right shall not be violated. The Party directs that legislation be introduced in both the United States Congress and the state of Texas to repeal existing statutory requirements and end the ever increasing, incessant, recurring, and calculated gathering, accumulation, and dissemination of finger prints, Social Security numbers, financial, and personal information of law abiding citizens by business and governments for use of which are contrary to and destructive of our individual and collective freedom. Such legislation shall provide remedy and redress to any individual denied service for refusing to provide the above-mentioned information.
Seems to go against the Patriot Act.

Quote:
Repeal of Federal War Powers Act –A perpetual state of national emergency allows unrestricted growth of government. The Party charges the president to cancel the state of national emergency and charges Congress to repeal the War Powers Act and to declare an end to the previously declared states of emergency.
No very Bush-friendly, are they?

Texas has a clause in their State Constitution that they may and can secede from the Union if they wish. They've always done things their own way and are not the sole mouthpiece for the Republican Party as a whole.

And despite their wanting to require the Pledge to the Texas Flag (which pledge describes Texas as "indivisible"), Texas has the right to divide itself into as many as five states; so if Tom "The Exterminator" DeLay feels he needs eight more Republican senators...

Theophylact,
WTH do you think we owe the UN? Who has paid (with lives and with money) for every UN-backed military action? Why do you think we owe them anything?

Theophylact,
Even you are not naive enough to think that TX politics drive the US or the Republican party. I am surprised that you are stooping as low as to insinuate that that is the case. You must be running out of your half-legitimate links and are advancing onto complete fabrications (the link is not fabricated but your insinuations are).

Please stop trying to influence people into hating the US as much as you do. Your complete and utter bias and blinded ways are getting very old and very predictable. YOU are not out for the betterment of the nation. YOU are out for what the Democratic party can get. YOU do not realize that neither party has all of the answers. At YOUR age, you should have learned that by now, but YOU are too blind to see that. That is a sad fact if it is true, and your actions show that it is the case. YOU and your ideas are a poison and you have already INFECTED several others here with your influence, not to mention how you have almost single-handedly changed the Community into a poltical forum which has driven away the Sysopt-faithful for the most part. I pray that YOUR influence is short lived and your POISONOUS ideas are taken for what they are: drivel.

LOL dave, way to sound like a jerk. You are going to blame Theo for turning this into a political forum?

Last I heard we had not paid our UN dues for quite some time. Some quick Googling looks like we may have recently paid most if not all of it off. Or were making an effort to do so.

I assume you are referring to the US here, perhaps you should look at what other nations are involved in UN peacekeeping operations. Many other nations provide forces at their expense (lives and money) to perfrom UN duties.

While we are most likely the single biggest contributor to the UN forces. I would be curious to see where we stand in relation to everyone else.

Does he have to be?

Perhaps he thinks the same of yours. We are all entitled to have opinions.
