Dan Rather just reported that Tom DeLay is proposing a constitutional amendment to allow Arnold to run for President! What an IDIOT!! He's already bulldozed the right-wing agenda through the Texas legislature. Now he's trying to re-write the US Constitution to suit his party's ideology. Or is that idiocy?

Eh, it may be a good idea to remove the 'born in the US' thing. If you've lived here for 10 years or so, you should know enough about how the country works.

As for Arnold...well, he has a ways to go before he can even be consitered for other offices. If he can prove himself as a conpotent governor, then yeah, maybe.

Constitutional amendments for political reasons have backfired in the past. Roosevelt had 4 presidential terms. The Republicans hated that, so they amended the Constitution to allow only 2 terms. Just a few years later, Ike was a popular Republican president that could have easily won a third term. However, he was now limited to two.

No one born outside of the united states w/o birthrite to the USA via their parents cant thanks to the constitution... and it will stay that way.. It has for centuries. mind set has not changed.
Its not the factor of that you know how the country 'works' or not... this matters next to nil compared to the fact that they immigrated here. They dont have the right of the land... in a way Id like to put it. Their children can for all I care.. But you have to be born on this land to understand it fully.. you cant tell me that as a child you wernt amazed by things youre parents taught you of the land, be it fishing,hunting,road trips, ect.
There isnt a day that goes by that i dont think about those who died for what i have and what i have to sacrifice every day that i exist for myself,my family, and the general public. Not too mention all of the grasslands i have back home, and the badlands of North Dakota, Montana and South Dakota. I wouldnt trade one acre of that land for all of the wealth in the world.
People who have worked the land for generations... they know what i mean as well.
Thats why we just cant let someone run us whom doesnt understand what we stand for,love,cherish,ect... they think they know but they dont. I dont want to see my way of life destroyed by a person who thinks it should be like their nation.NO. I like my nation the way it is.Its hard to explain, but its something ive always held true on as a belief.

But people just elected Arnold to the highest office in the state despite all the issues you raised.

Perhaps what are more important qualities for a leader are:

1) Integrity
2) Sense of fairness
3) Spirit of Public Service
4) Hardwork and determination
5) Ambition
6) Endless stamina
7) Presence and charisma
8) Intelligence to grasp complex issues
9) Leading ny example
10) Character and conscience

I would vote for such a person rather than someone who qualified merely on basis of origin.
