Systems Air Conditioning Broke?

Hey,

My home A/C hasn't been cooling this week, so I went outside and checked the unit. There is a big metal hose and a small metal hose that run into the house. I am pretty sure that the small hose used to be hot and the bigger hose was ice cold. Now they are both ambient temperature. The fan is blowing on the unit and the blower works inside the house, but every minute or 2 there is a loud clunk inside the outside unit. My guess is that something is wrong with the compressor.... what do you guys think?

You should check the yellow pages and call some companies to see if they offer free estimates. I'm not familiar with the workings of home A/C units, but I imagine that if it is the compressor that is causing a problem, you'll need the system recharged after that's repaired.

Call Sears, they repair all makes and models

Sounds like the compressor is gone,or it leaked all the the freon out..

Yep.. that is the compressor trying to come on...or, at least the juice is being applied but the compressor is not coming on. This usually is a dead compressor. If it were just low on freon, the compressor might run..but no cooling. What you are hearing is possibly the start relay energizing to apply AC voltage to the compressor.

If you are as lucky as a double winner of the Power ball lottery...your problem may be only the start relay contacts burned up.
