Bush Takes Leak...
Seriously: Quote:
As pressure built on his aides, Bush joked about the matter. During a roundtable discussion with reporters for African news organizations, he was asked about three reporters in Kenya who were detained this week in what some journalists saw as an effort to intimidate them into revealing sources. The detention drew a condemnation from the International Federation of Journalists, which complained that the government has been harassing and brutalizing journalists.
"I'm against leaks," Bush said, to laughter. "I would suggest all governments get to the bottom of every leak of classified information." Turning to the reporter who asked the question, Martin Mbugua of the Daily Nation, Kenya's largest daily newspaper, Bush said, "By the way, if you know anything, Martin, would you please bring it forward and help solve the problem?"
White House counsel Alberto R. Gonzales, who is rarely seen in public, has appeared twice with Bush since the investigation began, including during an East Room celebration yesterday for Hispanic Heritage Month.
"Everybody needs to have a good abogado," Bush said, drawing laughter as he used the Spanish word for "lawyer." "I've got a really good one," he added, to more laughter. "Al Gonzales is my lawyer and close friend."
| Some people might think detention of journalists in order to intimidate them wasn't a joking matter.

I fail to see where Bush did anything wrong here. Certainly nothing worth posting. With you highlighting it it appears he was having big belly laughs over this. My guess is you exaggerated the reporters exaggeration.

| Epidemic, why don't you read the damn passage?
The Kenyan reporter, Martin Mbugua, asked about the detentions and harassment; the President suggested he help solve the leaks.
Ha ha very funny.

I guess that joke stinks.
I cant even see it.
but did bush address the issue in other unreported quotes.
The reporters being harrased does anyone have a link to that story. I mean are we talking about checking their baggs and asking them a question. Or are we talking about driving em off in black Ops SUV and beating em with a rubber hose. What was the reason for the detention...

Here's what the IFJ has to say: Quote:
Yesterday, police detained three journalists - Managing Director Tom Mshindi, Associate Editor Kwamchetsi Makokha, and Sunday editor David Makali – all working for the East African Standard. The government was reacting to a story published by the newspaper in the Sunday edition regarding the killing of Bomas II delegate and University of Nairobi lecturer, Dr. Odhiambo Mbai. The article also linked a high-profile government official as one of the principal instigators behind the murder. The police released Mshindi and his colleague Makokha shortly after their arrest but told them to report to police headquarters today.
"This form of intimidation will do nothing to encourage those who hoped that Kenya has embarked upon a new era of democracy and respect for human rights," said Aidan White, IFJ General Secretary. "Our colleagues must to free to carry out their professional duties in order to maintain the public right to information".
The IFJ is particularly concerned over reports that journalists have been forced to reveal their sources of information. "Not only is this a direct violation of the Kenyan Code of Conduct for Journalists, but it is an offence against the ethics of journalists worldwide," said White.
| I don't know where to get the full text of Bush's humorous remarks.

Were you as rabid about getting after Clinton when he had the same leaks? The Clinton admin was a sieve. Was their leak as important to you as this one? Tell me this: Why is the media hounding Pres Bush about this when they did not hound Clinton about the Tripp leaks, the leaks of intel to China and the leaks of personal records for those opposing Clinton in his many sexual harrasment issues?
