Is China friend or foe?

Is China friend or foe?

I've gotten surprisingly mixed results on this. I'm just curious and thought I'd get a consesus of what people thought here.

There are no friends or foes in International Politics or in Business.

Todays friend is tomorrows enemy.

The world is far from ideal and everyone just has an agenda.

And ulterior motives. (Like there are any other kind.)

Of course a nation is going to have their best interests at heart 100% of the time. All surviving nations do. Whether or not they are ethical or the right decision for their nation is a different story, but they all have their interests at the forefront.

And of course there are friends and foes. I agree that they change, but nothing is forever.

So, at present, I'd say China was a foe.

Was a friend till 2002.

Before that an enemy.

Before that I can't remember.

But right now, FOE. Like Saudi Arabia.

I Voted foe but I am really not sure you can catagorize it that nicely.

As for saudi arabia (I believe the people in power are friends of convenience) The royal family has exceptions but in any group of 30,000 people you will probably find differing opinions.

China is a bit of a dirty player IMO but I believe that they value our money and find our relationship convenient.

I calls em as I sees em.

I am not partisan in my rhetoric.

I may side with conservatives or defend in the case of unfounded charges (like the marines you beat up with no facts). But each situation I weigh in on is based upon my own feeling, views, and evaluations.

Neither. It has its own agenda, and that always comes first. As the most populous country in the world, and with what's probably the longest continuous civilization (certainly the longest written record), it thinks of itself as the most important country, too (as don't we all?) and does whatever serves its interests best.

Remember when it and the USSR were both Communist? That didn't prevent a lot of nasty border incidents, and they came damn close to war several times.

Yeah, China still is communist and Russial could slip back into it if they are not careful. Reasons I believe China is a foe: communist. Their governments disreguard for life(only allowing one child per couple). Their agressive stance against Taiwan( which is the real China). But since we can buy products cheaply from there, our government honors them with "most favored nation" status. Clinton wouldnt address this problem and Bush is just as bad in this area.

why do you think communism is bad and the devil itself? it's the best system! the only bad thing about it there are people that use if for their own good! capitalism isnt much better, to be honest, every system has some bad sides.

why does the american hate communism? because of the cuba crises? or what was it again?
