MS not really sending email?

HI gang.

Got an email supposingly from MS with an .EXE attachment this morning. My server removed the attachment before it hit my box. I've read some that MS do send patches and some that they don't. What the real truth??

This was a virus. Be glad they stripped it. MS does not send EXEs via email.

Any .exe file sent via email, even from known people, can be potentially dangerous.

The only time MS sends you (anyone) email is IF you have subscribed to one of their lists to be notified of critical updates/etc.

And even then, they NEVER send any sort of .EXE attachment. All they will do is notify you of the update and provide you with a link to obtain the software from one of their web servers.

The only time you should ever accept an EXE in the mail from MS is if you're literally on the phone with the tech and he specifically tells you he's send you one
(and even then its a good idea, to tell him to strip off the extension and let you rename it.. for the filters)

I've gotten the lucky "patch" several times in my yahoo.. I just delete it.
