Goodbye to the Vet

Well, its the last game for Veterans Stadium today. I went yesterday, it was nice, they had the All Vet Team, Schmidty - Daultion - etc. they were all there for the ceremoney. The navy leapfrogs came in to the stadium from above. Thome hit 2 homers...woot woot! then we won in the 9th....ok

Well, its an awsome stadium, and really, it should not be torn down. The Eagles got their new crappy stadium.....but it would be better just to refurbish the Vet....and put down some grass. The colleseum design is sweet, and it pisses me off they are getting rid of it. The first game i saw, the Braves won 8-7, the last game (yesterday) it was the phillies who beat the braves 7-6. There isnt anything that i can do to keep the vet up, but i just wish they, cause the new stadium is a total waste of money. Oh well....goodbye Vet....you served us well.

They tryed the grass idea in the 80's. They ended up playing on cement. And the Vet was once thought to be the best baseball statium ever. Remember baseball....the Eagles were gay and had to join in. Now the Vet is the worse one out their. As for the Eagles new stadium. I've been their twice. Once for a Bruce Springsteen concert and an Eagles game. It's an awesome stadium on the outside. Inside its so dark its like the night, but overall its great. I've also see the making of the Citzens Bank Park about 8 times and it gets better all the time. I can't wait for opening day!

Maybe familiarity breeds contempt, but I am happy to see that place go. There was no such thing as a comfortable temperature at the Vet. You were either sweating or freezing. The turf was always the worst surface of any in MLB or the NFL. The NexGen (?) turf is a bad joke, and an ugly bad joke at that.

Favorite moments at the Vet for me:
1. Ducking for cover after a Mike Schmidt pop-up that landed about two feet away from me right in back of the home dugout.
2. Seeing the Hokies beat Temple 9-7, the difference in the game was a Bruce Smith sack of the Owls QB that resulted in a safety.
3. Taking my kids to their first college football game, seeing Mike Vick take the Owls apart.

Worst moments:
1. Watching the Phillies drop both games of a season-ending twin bill that put them in last place (as usual).
2. Leaving a scoreless tie that went too late, only to have the Phils score the game winning run just about the time we were leaving the parking lot.
3. Puking my brains out after eating some bad soft pretzels. Why do we buy those things?

i dont know if anyone else noticed...but over the past two years they have been preparing people for higher prices....gradually. origionally, well like 3 years ago a GA was $5, then it went to $7 and now its at $10. My guess is GA for the new one is gonna be $14.

too expensive for my blood....phillies suck nonetheless (except Thome...if not for him, they would not have even been in the wild card race to begin with). i still hate to see the Vet to go.......good memories.....

One thing about the Vet, since it's one of only a few of the cookie-cutter stadiums left, it's easy to recognize.

The Phils will lose their patience with Bowa early next season if there is not a significant improvement. I predict he'll be gone before the All-Star break next year.
