Charter Communication ROCKS!
Well at least for me---
Ive been a loyal cable TV and Internet subscriber for quite some time---recieved a Western Union mailgram from them today saying they were doubling my maximum dl speed for FREE!---sure enough all tests indicate 2.2+ Mbps...
Hope they didnt make a mistake :-)

Don't get TOO excited, tkop. I got it too. Check the webpage listed in the letter: http://www.charter.com/thankyou/
Yeah, it's great for now, but next March: Quote:
What will happen in March?
In March, we will contact you to see if you would like to remain at the 2 Megabits per second download speed. If not, your service level will revert back to what it was prior to the upgrade. If such a service level does not exist at that time, we will place you into a package that most closely resembles the download speed you were at prior to the upgrade.
| A little reading at DSLReport's forum is in order....
A long history of dealing with cable companies tell me that when the other shoe falls, it'll come down hard, directly on our walletts!

Call it "looking a gift horse in the mouth", but it gripes me that ALL users will get the 2 Mbps rate, regardless of what service level you're paying for, and you stay at the price you're at. So around here, "bronze" (256kb) customers will continue paying $30, "silver" (768kb) will pay $40, and "gold" (1.5mb) will pay $60 - yet ALL will get the same service....
And from what I've read so far, it looks like the "package discounts" for TV + Internet are going to go bye-bye....

They did the same thing for our cable. Jumped us from 1.5Mb to 2Mb. I can't tell the difference. Speeds have gone up, but for normal web surfing... <shrug>

Well, that explains my sudden increase in speeds, I didn't know what was going on. I didn't receive the notice you guys got. As Whir pointed out, I don't notice any diff when surfing.

CHARTER SUX!
Those yeahoo's can't do anything right in my area. They hook you up with a crappy picture, add $5/mo in service fees after insisting the price quoted was final when we ordered it, then give you a HUGE runaround if you were expecting a decent picture...like sending out technicians over and over who look right at all the fuzz, lines, distortion, shadows, etc, and then say "I don't see anything wrong with that picture.", or who fix the problem then say "But I can't leave it like that, I will get into trouble..." [something about bleeding a signal into the air???]. And forget about getting your money back!
I loathe charter....
