TMX,
Although I find our late arrival annoying. With out American industrial might you would be speaking German by 1941. The arms support, and material support rendered by the US was instrumental in your survival. AFAIK!
Showing up late by what, 2 years? Still fought at the zenith of German might. I do not believe that Germany was all that hurting in 1941 - 42. So being that the whole of Europe was not able to tip the scales on Germany we were the proverbial straw as it were.
I do believe that had the US not rendered military, financial, and arms aid, the whole of Europe would have collapsed.
On the French cowardice thing: WWII probably is not a great example of that. Germany's military machine was able to fight off many countries. Their blitz of France could not have been repelled even by the best troops (at their level of military preparedness). So to coin a Next Generation phrase (resistance would have been futile).
Of course you could fault France for not being prepared enough
prepared enough.
