Eek what did I get into

Some fast talking lady called me yesterday regarding a product I registered. She said I would be receiving a package with some software as a "thanks for registering". Then she launched into a sales pitch for there $49.99 web site access. I asked her if I would have to pay for the stuff I was getting in the mail or pay to return it if I don't want it and she said "bye" and hung up on me. The company's name was Crystal View I think. I register a lot of stuff over a 6 month period and I can't figure out what this is in reference to. I think I may have been taken

did you give them any CC#'s or account #'s?
Even if you didn't just keep an eye on your accts for a bit for strange activity.

Sounds like you were thinking ok, if they hung up on you
No caller id? even if you did it probably wouldn't show up

Yes, if you gave credit card info in a weak moment or mental lapse, watch your next statement and if something from this solicitor is there immediately notify the CC company and exclaim, "hey, I never authorized this!" (Be certain to follow up with a letter, keeping a copy, documenting your conversation and referencing the name of the CC Customer Rep you spoke with.) Do the same (written / return receipt / certified) if you receive a bill for money due on an account with this company. Do something. Don't ignore it. If it's "there" it will not go away without your acting upon it.

Good luck.

No it didn't show up on the Caller ID. She didn't ask for a CC# or Account # either. I can't find any info on the net about this company either. They supposedly have this wonderful web site.

Well, if you didn't give her any credit card info or check info....and they send you something without your requesting it....you should not have any problems.....

I used to work for a telemarketing company...and it coud have been a couple things...sometimes if they are using computers to dial the computers have been known to randomly disconnect...also i have more than once rested my finger on the disconnect key so if they were not intrested i could jus get on with my calling and accidentally disconnected...and it could have been that she was trying to cheat you and was being listened to by her supervisor without her knowledge and he/she disconnected the call.

So long as you gave her no cc ot acct #'s you should be fine.

A few tips though..in all the time i worked for the one...we only had one 'free deal' that was actually free.

Telemarketers are not nice people no matter how nice they sound. In fact in myexperience the nicer they sound the more shady they are.

Dont let them fast talk you...make them slow down and explain two times or more if you need it. If they really want to make the sale they wil lbe more than happy to do so.

And finally If you find that you dont want calls from them...write down their name...the name of the company and the name of the supervisor as well as the name of the person/s contracting them. Then tell them that you want your name removed from their calling list. If they continue to call your home. Report the priveiously gathered information to the Better Business Bureau, The FCC and The peron/s contracting them. They will be subject to close down as well as fines up to 10,000.

Interestingly enough, it was when I asked for clarification that she said "bye" and hung up on me. Sounds like a shady deal and I am going to keep an eyeball on my mail for a package I didn't order.

If you do receive something from them that you did not request or authorize, you can keep it and you do not have to pay for it. That is the law.

I usually tell the telemarketer to buzz off. This one started off with "Calling in regards to some software you registered." It totally caught me off guard.

Germ is right. In Wisconsin, if you recieve anything in the mail that you didn't authorize, you can consider it a "gift" and keep it free of charge. But sometimes the caller tricks you into saying "yes" - then they keep a recording of the call in case you try to deny it.

I can't wait until our state gets the telemarketing "no call" list system set up, as they have been promising.
