Earthquake Storms
http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/horizon...stormsqa.shtml
This was a very interesting show. Especially for anyone in earthquake county, like us in California. And according to their calculations Istanbul is in big trouble. I seen it on the Discovery Channel. It's also showing on the Science Channel. Watch for it.

They try to end the show on a positive note by saying with this warning the people of Istanbul can start preparing. Didn't seem very positive to me. The previous city in Turkey struck by an earthquake also had warning that they had a very good chance of a quake coming...they did nothing about it.

So then if these other faults are tectonic borders, then what is the New Madrid fault? It's my understanding it starts right near St. Louis and heads south from there (er, here).
I've heard quite a bit of conversation about this fault line lately, particularlly it's history. Quote: |
In the winter of 1811-12, the central Mississippi Valley was struck by three of the most powerful earthquakes in U.S. history.

Dang! Can you imagine seeing the ground literally ROLL...time for a new box of "Oops I crapped my pants!" http://www.disasterrelief.org/Disasters/980422quakes/ Quote: |
Eyewitnesses reported the Mississippi River flowed backwards for a period of time after the quake. This account is only partially true. Only a small section of the river was affected this way. The backward flow of the river was due to the lifting up of a region called the Tiptonville Dome near Reelfoot Lake in Kentucky.

I think war will destroy us several more times (near self-extinction) before nature finally puts us all 6' Under.
