U.S. team finds no smallpox in Iraq

SMALLPOX FEARS were part of the case the Bush administration used to build support for invading Iraq — and they were raised again as recently as last weekend by Vice President Dick Cheney.

When Team Pox searched key locations in Iraq, such as the defunct Darwah foot-and-mouth disease center, they found the facility in the same condition U.N. inspectors left it in seven years ago.
In 1996, inspectors destroyed one fermenter, a storage tank and an inactivation tank at Darwah and poured concrete into the air conditioners while other equipment, including filter pressers and centrifuges were tagged for monitoring purposes.
The smallpox team found cobwebs covering much of the inside, although a CIA National Intelligence Estimate said the Iraqis were refurbishing the facility. [Emphasis added]

On Sunday, Cheney said two trailers discovered in Iraq could have been used to make smallpox. The vice president referred to the trailers as “mobile biological facilities” — a characterization that has been disputed by intelligence analysts within two U.S. government agencies that believe the trailers were used to fill weather balloons. That's not the point DPA.

Point is one by one the US President's case for the invasion of Iraq is not bearing out.

The facts as they come out seem to be different from what the President told the nation.

Aside from the obvious consequences of such actions, what will have deeper ramifactations will be the credibility attached to statements made by the Presidents Office.

The credibility (or lack thereof) will remain even after the present incumbent is long forgotten.

The credibility of the presidency was shot all over Monica's dress way before GWB took office. I'm still holding out before saying Bush knowingly lied. It's entirely possible all of the evidence indicated they had these weapons. Innocent people are found guilty all the time based on misleading evidence. But we know Saddam was not entirely innocent. Even if WMDs are never found I'm glad we overthrew that government.

Oh, but according to Club the mass graves were just another American ploy, but then he would say I am puting words in his mouth. Club's montra, "Long live Saddam." Well maybe that is too extreme, "Long live the Ba'ath party." Because that has served the Syrians so well.

killing his own people is NOT the reason we went in there . It is a good reason , don't get me wrong , but it was NOT the reason we were told we had to go in . Saddam was indeed a bad person , and don't take this wrong , but him killing his own people is no consern of ours . there are mass graves here full of indians remember that ..

for 6-8 years all we heard was how bad clinton was ...

i think the press has been VERY soft on bush ..... for years we heard about whitwater YEARS ... but little to nothing was said about harken ...
