Photos: Syria - Sept 2003

Well, I got back yesterday but was too tired to sift through the 321 photos I made. So today I made a small selection to share with everyone.

Enjoy

I mean it seems a nice place.

Pity if Bush and his war-mongering gang destroy it like they did Iraq on false premises.

Come on now Shahani, I don't think it's necessary to bring that stuff into CM's photo thread.

Nice pictures CM. 2849 is really cool.

Gimme a break This is NOT a war thread.. as Whir stated clearly.

Great pics!

What's with that street market with the roof
http://www.alhaffar.com/syria03/images/CIMG2818.jpg

Is that a glass roof or is it just structure?

Pretty cool lookin' though!

vass0922: Yes it's a market or suq and it's very old. It's the smaller version of this suq which is about 3000 years old. The market is situated where a pillared path used to lead to a Canaanite temple, which later became a temple for Romans, Greeks, Christians (a church) and today finally Muslims (a mosque called the Umayyad Mosque).

The roof you see in the photo you linked to is very old, some of the tiles still contain bullet holes from the revolution of independence against the French
