Internet Violence

Being news editor, I literally read hundreds of news stories each day. I have noticed an alarming trend in Internet-inspired violence over the past few months.

Take this story for example:

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/com...%5E421,00.html

I really do not have a point to make with this post, other than to warn people that these types of Internet affairs are becoming common place in today's society. These cases are popping up everywhere, just tune your TV to the news or even the judge shows.

Then again, perhaps I do have a point after all. If anyone insists on using the Internet to cultivate a relationship, try your best to learn the real issues behind the situation, not the often sugar-coated fantasy that the person on the other side of the IM client is trying to feed you. The collision of reality and fantasy rarely produces positive results.

I don't believe the internet begets violence, but it certainly seems to bring out the worst in some people.

However, I've never heard of a case where someone was physically injured by a virus or worm attack.

In any place where there is no responsibity or consequences for your action, a type of behaviour, usually non-productive (in a sense of right or wrong), is displayed. (my opinion)

This behavior doesn't require an act of violence to contain or surpress, however, word are the thoughts and intents of our hearts.....

Kicking her out wasn't enough for him. He was 68 and she was 38 (I think).... This tells me there are some other reasons behind the story too...

People are slowly coming to grips that behaviour on the internet has real consequences, even if they can get away with that behaviour more often than in real life due to annonymity <sic> and distance.

The Net is a creation of man, and it follows that human nature will follow its use: (commerce - advertising and spying on customers; prostitution - porn and solicitation; government - spying and evidence collection; infidelity, fighting, slander, etc...).
