Is anyone a member of the QPB online book club?

This is not a shill. I am wondering what others experiences are, and what their S&H prices are per book.

I got their offer in the mail recently. Buy 6 books for $6, and buy just 1 in the next year. Pay S&H on each book.

Here are some of the books (all $1 ea plus S&H) I might order:

How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman
Mammoth Book of Erotica by various
The Lord of the Rings Set ($2)
Harry Potter 4 Volume Set ($2)
Encyclopedia of Urban Legends by Jan Harold Brunvand
Dilbert: What Do you Call a Sociopath in a Cubicle? by Scott Adams
The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers by Michael Newton

I'd probably ditch the 1st or 4th item.

I live in CA, and I think it might be cheaper to just buy books at my local store.

What are the total costs for my introductory books?

For your introductory package, the shipping and handling charges will be $5.49 for the first item, and $2.19 for each additional item. Counts as two selections will be billed as two separate books. State sales tax will be added if you live in NY, PA, and IN.

QPB is a good deal as book clubs go; but I mainly deal either with my local bookseller (Politics and Prose, in Northwest DC, is terrific) or use a book search (such as Bibliofind or ABEBooks) for out-of-print stuff.

I don't really like book or music clubs much, because they keep bombarding you with stuff. It's not like spam, because you asked for it, but still...

I was a member of QPB for a while and enjoyed what they have to offer. (I only stopped because I was not reading that much at the time.)

I think their offer is a good one, but postage does add up. Their catalog seems to have a somewhat liberal bent to it, but that may be unintentional.

All in all, if you like to read I think you'll do well with them.
