What is your first memory?
What is the first thing you ever remember in your life?
My very first memory in my life goes back until I was about 6 months old. I was bundled up in a carraige with blankets wrapped around me covering my ears so I couldn't hear anything. I remember the buildings rolling by overhead well enough to show you where that place was. I remember looking out and seeing my mother talking to a man with greying hair, smiling. I remember him taking the carraige and watching me as he pushed me through town.
Many years later I asked my mother about that time, hoping she could tell me why I would remember something like that.
It was the one and only time I met my biological father.

My first memory is probably falling off my couch and going unconsious. I was like 3 or 4. Maybe it jogged my memory into gear

Like Prex, my first memory is back when I was six months old, and revolved around an adoption. It was the day I came home, six months old to the day. I remember there being a whole bunch of people smiling at me and passing me around. Mostly I liked it, except for the guy who tickled me, who, I figured out later, was my new grandfather. It was hot as blazes, August in St. Louis, and I far preferred being passed around to getting put on a plastic playpad.
I also met my cousin who was three days younger than me. I remember him being in a stroller with beads on the front tray thingie. I crawled over, tried to play with the beads and he pushed me away.

If I really dig back, I remember laying in a crib and the taste of the baby toys I used to put in my mouth, batting around a hanging mobile over the crib.
OMG, what a wierd topic, Prexy! Haven't gone there in years!! |

I remember when I was 2 years old and my brother was born. Stayed at one of my folk's friends house that night while mom and dad were delivering. Thats when I got my favorite stuffed animal. Next morning dad got me and we went to the hospital. All the family was in the waiting room. The place was large, echoing, and white. My uncle Jim had a plant with him.(family tradition, when a kid is born, he gets a long living plant. The joke was see if the kid can outlive it, had mine for 17 years now.) Got to go in and see mom with this little dude in a white blanket. I wasnt exactly pleased to see him, I knew I would never get as much attention from then on. It would seem that most early childhood memories come from deep emotional or other big things that happen. I wouldnt be suprised if some 1 year old kids(at the time) remember 9/11.
I'm know I 've got some earlier memories, but they are they type so distant you only remember them late at night, liying on your bed...

I suppose I was 4 or 5 judging by the picture, I was shoveling the entrance with my cousin, using our plastic shovels. My mother thought it was cute and took a picture. I remember that moment.
I'm sad I don't have memories of my grandmas, they both died when I was 2.

I have a few faint memories....
one of grabbing a paintbrush and painting a louvered door...another playing in the yard and wishing I could go into the treehouse....another drinking a bottle of ink and having my stomach pumped....sitting on my Dad's lap while he was doing some wood carving... riding a horse with my Dad....all these within the 2 - 3 year age range......
A Very Special Note Here..... When my little boy was about a year and a half, I was talking to him. For a few minutes, we had this incredible conversation. He told me that he picked me to be his mommy. I asked why. He said it was because he knew I would be nice to him. This was amazing, because he was so clear and not really speaking in sentences yet. I absolutely cherish that memory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A very very special moment that I chose to share with my fellow TIMO friends here.....
