Great thread!

I have lots of early memories, mostly just random 'pictures'. This one stands out because the pics are connected...

I was about 2, and I had observed Dad put the key in the little slot near the steering wheel, and turn on the car. This was really impressive!

Later, my folks were sitting around the kitchen table, talking (bo-RING!) so I toddled over to Dad and asked for his keys.

I have no idea why he actually gave them to me, but he did.

I proceeded directly into the living room, where I had observed a similar slot in the wall, and I remember approaching it, and that's as much as I remember!

I've been this way ever since.

My first memories go back to around the start of kindergarten. There was a girl in my class with the greatest tan. She had soft, cool hands and I always tried to stand next to her in our double lines so I could hold her hand when we went outside. And there was a kid in my class named Charlie. I thought that was the coolest name. Sadly, the girl died before the end of the year and Charlie committed suicide right after high school. Strange that I remember those two so well.

Interesting...I notice that many of these memories often have some sort of violent, or unfortunate aspect to them...as though we're compelled to remember things that tore us up then or later.

Read Prex's (the first post here) again. That one's pretty poignant!

Also, Sweet's story about her boy contains a clue (IMO) about the nature of life on earth...

I think my first memory was falling off my grandparent's basement steps with my glass bottle in my hand. Or it could be that time I put grandmom's Town Car into neutral and rolled it down the driveway into some bushes. Or the time I jammed my finger between the door of the Town Car...I cant remember
