where were you 2 years ago today?

i woke up at 9 o'clock for a 10am calculus recitation. just went about my normal business, nothing out of the norm. got to class about 9:55, and no one was there. then 2 people walked in. and all 3 of us were wondering where everyone was. then 1 guy walks in and sits down and says "did you guys here what happenned in new york?" we just said no. he said that someone had flown a 747 into the world trade towers. i audibly laughed and said "dude, do you even know how big a 747 is?!?!? there is no way, those are the biggest commercial planes, that is just insane." and he said "well it was one of those planes anyway, maybe a 737 or something." so he lost all credability in my mind by not getting the facts straight. 10:10, our prof showed up, and she said, in her ukranian accent, "go back to your dorms, class is cancelled." and she confirmed that someone had indeed flown a plane into the towers. got back to my dorm, found out that another one had hit. filled my harddrive with 2 hours worth of footage from CNN. talked to a friend from penn state, and she said some kid had a heart attack in the commons and died. His parents worked in the towers.

Systems

I was at work desperately trying to get some news. I first read about the attack on SysOpt. Then when CNN and all the other news sites were clogged, I figured it had to be true. I went downstairs to the media dept and they had a very small TV on. That was right after the second plane hit and everyone began to realize it was a terrorist attack and not an accident. They finally rolled out a large TV and a huge crowd gathered. I'll never forget the feeling of helplessness, anger, and frustration.

8:00am- got ready to take both boys for vaccinations as school had just opened. They warned us at the school that because we were from a disease infested third world country, the boys would need to be vaccinated all over again.

Had called in to my office (2 blocks South of GZ) that I will be late.

8:30am: Coffe in hand, was watching CNN waiting for boys to come out of showers and get dressed for 9 am appointment.

8:50am: (approx) - they announced a plane had struck WTC tower. Looked out my living room window -we had a clear view of WTC Towers - and could see smoke.

Wife said its a big accident.

9:10am or so-second plane struck.

No accident now.

9:40am-took the boys to doctor nearby. Watched the news waiting for the boys to get shots.

10:45am: My office called and told me not to come in. (Like I was going to.)

12:00noon- Nothing to do. GW Bridge deserted. Eerie atmosphere. Normally theBridge is extremely crowded.

12:15-2pm: In fron of TV, nursing one Becks after another.

2pm-5pm: Sleep off the Becks

5pm-11pm- mostly in front of TV.

Sad day.

I was working in the shop (engine building) and we have a tv in the corner when a news flash came on about that. I think it was around 9-10 here. We stood there dumbfounded and thought that was a freak accident. When a second plane hit we knew that was an attack. We decided to close up as we were pretty upset. Damn those bastards.

I just came back from class when I saw a congregation in the tv room. So I went in just in time to see second plane hit. It was live, not replay.

I was sleeping when the first plane stroke...

My father woke me up.

I was watching the tv when the second plane hit.

After that I spent around 1 week in front of the tv.

not much sleep.

Sad times.

Yeah, I even took some pictures from our balcony with the boys before going to the doctor--not too clear because of the bright haze but you can see the towers smoking.

Will try and dig them up and see if I can post them in gallery.

We couldn't go to work for 7 days because the area was sealed and when we did go the office was fully dust covered and they gave us face masks.

The whole area had a stink for over 6 months after that.

My company was also devasted and in March 2002 I got laid off.
