Should you be ticketed for not wearing your seatbelt.

I generally believe that seatbelts are a good thing. I religiosly wear mine.

But I am offended by laws designed to protect me from myself. Minors not wearing seatbelts is also another case all together they are not old enough to consent to the risks.

If you can make seat belt laws mandetory then I truely believe by the same token they should ban motorcycles as they are much more dangerous then traveling in a car unbelted.

Why yes warthog?

And if yes to that why are motorcycles still allowed as even properly equipped with leather and helment they are inherrently more dangerous than riding unbuckled in a car?

I agree with the seatbelt laws. It's too easy to become a burden to the state by not wearing one. A motorcycle causes less property damage and poses less of a risk of maiming other drivers. With healthcare and social security in the state it is in, I can't really blame them for these laws.

No, except for minors. I also wear my seatbelt and never rode my motorcycle without a helmet, but mandatory laws can go too far. I've seen proposals for motorcycle seat belts, for Pete's sake. Ridiculous.

On the other hand, I've seen three riders in the past couple of weeks riding without any eye protection. That kind of stupidity appalls me, and I'm tempted to support laws which protect idiots from themselves. But I always come back to the idea that safety laws can be carried too far. Next thing you know, they'll be requiring helmets in cars.

I understand the burden on society thing but likewise riding a motorcycle is responsible for many head traumas, spinal injuries, and loss of limbs which lead to burdens to society.

As for the property damage thing??? My wearing or not wearing a seatbelt does not increase risk to other drivers, or their property does it ???

You'd be happy in New Hampshire, then. They require seat belts for minors, but merely advise their use for adults.

Theo the question is not where I would be happy. It is what do you think. My guess is that there was a snide tone in your head as you typed that and feel the question is rediculous. But say what you think.

Your wearing a seatbelt reduces your risk of being damaged irrepairably by yourself or other drivers. Which the state would end up paying for in one way or another.

Motorcyclists cause less damage and less likleyhood to harming others when they have mishaps. That and they're using a much less mainstream method of travel.

You need to keep in mind that these laws aren't there because the lawmakers care about us. They're worried about the money.
