Senate votes to block OT changes

So now all of us "working class" can breath a little easier.

Maybe.

Seems that GW Bush has threatened veto unless the Over Time exemptions are expanded. Those expansions would have made it profitable to downsize a comanies work force (thus saving on insurance costs and other per head costs) while making the lives of the remaining workers miserable. Imagine a sixty hour work week where the company decides if and when and how to compensate you.

Aren't you glad our hard working little Pres got back from his month off in time for this?

Good stuff. The last thing Big Business needed was another way to screw the working folk. As it is, too many are working overtime without the pay just hoping to avoid the axe. This would have made it legal. Glad to see some sense prevailed.

They're not proposing a law, but a rule. There's a difference. The Labor Department estimates the rule applies to less than 700,000 people currently, the vast majority work for small businesses.

By the way, the senate vote is all fluff. The conference committee will work out the details and it may work its way through anyway.

Hope Bush doesn't veto this to enrich his rich campaign contributors.
