Calling a Missourians

My Mom and step Dad are going to Kansas city next week and they asked me to find out about some of the local attractions. They are pulling the 5th wheel down to camp and golf and are looking for other things to do while they are there. What's something cool to recommend to a couple of lively 50 year olds? NO discoteks please They are looking for things like historical sites, fun things to do. I looked at the Missouri state homepage and got a few things off of it, but the locals are always the best source of good things to do. Any suggestions?

My sister & her husband go there frequently, so I asked them and here are their suggestions:

Worlds of Fun, like 6 flags [comparing to ours in St. Louis/Eureka] but cleaner and more roller coasters

City Market, a HUGE market
http://kc-citymarket.com/

Shopping Malls, porticularlly Blue Ridge Mall
http://www.blueridgemall.net/location.htm

The Casino Boat's Buffett is huge & awesome (CRABLEGS!)
http://www.argosycasinos.com/propert...ty/kc_home.asp

And they tell me KC is the "City of Fountains", so a nightly drive is a good visual experience.

Thanks! I don't know about the whole amusement park thing, but the Fountains, Casino and City Market may intrigue them

certainly would want to check out the ever famous Country Club plaza! From there, the Nelson Atkins Art Museum would be a suggested stop. Out on 435 just on the kansas side of the border is a HUGE cabella's store with all kinds of stuff to look at even if you don't want to buy.

We've got shopping malls out the wazoo... a ZOO, IMAX there [not sure whats showing]

Could probably enjoy a good carriage ride [horse powered] through the plaza at night, thats generally romantic and a "good" thing to polish off a day in Kansas City.

Im located about 1 block away from the Plaza at Rockhurst University, if you need some more "tourist" info, PM me and ill give you my Phone number and i can tell you more stuff.. so much to do here

hell, if your parents are truely LIVELY, send 'em down to worlds of fun to lose their sanity on the MAMBA at Worlds of Fun

WHIR!!! I can't believe you think nobody in missouri can use computers.... you KNOW we own you

I would definately recommend the Country Club Plaza for site seeing, walking and dining. I would also like to mention the refurbished 'Union Station', the central rail hub of the region. It was brought back to its' spledor of yesteryear. Across the street is the 'Liberty Memorial', one of the first ( if not the first and only) WWI monument. The Crown Center Mall is just a couple of blocks down the street from Union Station and the Liberty Memorial.

There is also the Truman Library, I haven't been there in years but I would think that a past President's library should be good.

1. The Country Club Plaza - a lot of fountains here
2. Union Station
3. Libery Memorial
4. Crown Center/Hallmark Cards
5. Truman Library
6. Must have BBQ!

What are your parents interest? That would help directing them to things that they may enjoy.

P.S. Yes, I can use a computer too.

If they're in town on the 14th, I would definately have them go to Arrowhead Stadium to see the Chiefs. Even if the Chiefs aren't one of their favorite teams, the experience of a Kansas City home football game is well worth it.

I would have to vote against the Blue Ridge Mall. It's a dying mall.

If they're looking for a good microbrewery, the Ameristar Casino has a fantastic one with good food.

Thanks guys...I think that will cover them pretty good for what time they have available after they get done golfing, etc.

Y'know...one thing that this thread has brought to my attention....I don't know if I could recommend much of anything in the State of Minnesota for tourists to do! ( of course, I don't live IN Minneapolis or St.Paul which makes it tough, but I drive around both all the time for work ). I'd pretty much send you to the Mall of America, and the Casino's if that's your thing...

No wonder I'm so bored! Fishing is the best thing I've got going for me!
