I did the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in 1980 prior to joining Graduate School. As far as I remember, we practiced from workbooks (no PCs then) and the actual exam turned out much easier.

You have to remember a couple of tips:

1) Go through the whole exam answering all the questions you know the answer to or can figure it out fast. Do the ones you are sure of first.

2) Don't get stuck with the difficult ones because that may mean you'll no reach the end and maybe miss some easy ones. The easy and tough questions are all scattered.

3) Always double check. Its easy to make mistakes in such tests. Never be complacent.

4) Nowadays I'd imagine there are lots of websites where you can do practice exams.

5) Do a google and research.

6) Remember speed is the key. But accuracy is equally important.

Good Luck.

it is entirely dependent on what area you are pursuing... perhaps you could give us a bit more info so we can be more helpful

I'm studying for the LSAT now, which is suprisingly similar. The Princeton Review gudies are great (I'm also a fan of Kaplan). I'd recommend taking a full practice test first, then devising a study plan based on your strengths and weaknesses. There are many books geared toward specific portions of the exam (such as logic games in the case of the LSATs), so if you take the exam and find yourself really lacking in an area, you can buy a specific study guide for that. They also have several cd-roms, which I find helpful because I need something interactive. If you have any questions about the admissions process, etc. I'd be glad to help.
