Thief is killed...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...-2003Sep3.html

Normally I'm all for justice such as this...it being a 16yr old kid though :-/

I really feel for the man who shot them, even though IMO he was justified in his actions legally, he has to live with this forever.

Things went crazy? I think he helped that a bit.
Can't people just call the police now a days? It'd be easier to let them handle it then start shooting...

I have no problem with what he did. Actually, in TX its legal to use deadly force to prevent theft at night.

The problem with calling the police is that they call their parents, tell them Johnny was bad, and thats it.

One less theif. I do feel for his parents, but they do bear some blame in this.

As for him being 16, he knew what he was doing was wrong, he has no excuse.

I don't know why everyone wants to blame the parents for everything. Are the parents supposed to watch EVERYTHING their kid is doing?

Chances are that these kids would face probation/some jail time. Things aren't being taken lightly anymore.

No, but they do have a moral obligation to raise their children to respect laws. It's not my job to teach their brats right from wrong. And until they are adults, the parents should be accountable for their actions.

And there is a curfew in Texas for just this sort of thing. Not that kids obey curfews any more than they respect other peoples' rights and properties more these days. And don't start accusing me of "labelling all 16 year olds criminals." That is not my intent. But I have noticed that there is a general lack of respect by kids these days - more so that in my youth.

I do think however that the guy jumped the gun just a bit, but I wasn't there and I've never been in that situation so I can't say I wouldn't have done the same. With the history of thefts and breakins that evidently were going on there, I think it's a perfectly natural assumption that the guy came to. But any specaulation by anyone here will not help the guy or the kids he shot.

i can honestly say that i am indifferent on the situation.

side A. the kid was stealing and was conscious of his actions

side B. the man realised he was being robbed, and decided to fire a legal round, it was dark, probably hard to see, and even harder to tell age, so he let one go.

end of that.

From a purely logical standpoint, I agree.

On the other hand, put yourself in his shoes and imagine you just shot and killed a 16 year old kid right in front of your house...you see his bloody body and all you can think of is your 16 year old son...
