Media Tired of being treated like a criminal for sharing music online?

That is the 1/2 page headline ad I saw in this month's CGW ad.

Has anyone seen it?

One of it's slogans is: "File-Sharing: It's Music to our Ears"

"Stand up for your right to share the music you love! Join EFF today at http://www.eff.org/share/cgw"

I wonder if the RIAA is after these guys?

You are a criminal for sharing online music. In fact, under the Patriot Act ... you're a terrorist

Note: when I say *you* ... I don't mean YOU

downloading copyrighted music is plainly illegal. so basically you're tired of being put down for doing wrong?

you need to reevaluate your ethical and moral standards.

"you need to reevaluate your ethical and moral standards."

So does the RIAA and the recording companies and corporate America in general. If the didn't try to bleed every last nickel out of the consumers , the present situation would be as bad as it is. Put the blame where it belongs.

They supply a product. If it is too pricey go somewhere else. If there is no where else then talk to the artists and provide a new cheaper alternative.

Stealing in not an option. Plenty of stores charge too much for funiture, go and steal it. Sounds like a fair plan.

Hey that lawnmower at lowes is too expensive back the truck up I am gonna make a run for the door pushing my new murry.

Diamonds are about 200 or 300% mark up but controlled by debiers. go and steal some diamonds for your girl.

The logic is not there fellars. there is no justifying steeling (except for perhaps the case of preventing starvation but even that cant be done in the US because there are alternatives.)

this disscusion won't come to an end, because the olders will say, it's bad and the young ones say it's not that bad we do it because we are forced to... and so on

i say everyone did something illegal and sharing music isnt the worst ever! it's bad but not the worst!

Hey Creatures, don't get me wrong I can see the alure of it.

It is tempting to do with it right there.

My beef is with the self justification of it.

I stole things from a store when I was a kid. But I now realize that my theft compiled with the theft of a hundred other kids really hurt the guy. then I realized that I did not have any right to decide how much he charged. My rights extended to decide to shop there or not. I also realized that the prices were in part determined by the amount of theft.

It is wrong, there is no justifying it. Is it the worst crime imaginable? No. Would I stop being your friend for doing it? No. will I complain yell and chastize you for doing it? Yes.

Some young business minded clown should arrange a business which undercuts riaa by 50% to 75% gives a higher percentage to the artist, and rakes in all those sales which have not occurred because riaa is a big fat meany.

Course I am not sure how much money you would be able to cut.

After all Best Buy, and music world must turn a healty profit to keep 100,000 cd's on the shelf to make sure there is a selection.

I just do not see how they could survive with out at least 5 to 7 bucks profit on each CD. Based on volume I have seen at stores.

At 7 bucks a title you would have to sell 33 disks a day just to pay rent and pay two employees with out benefits.

3500 bucks mall rental space and 3600 bucks on empoyees 7 days 10 hour days 30 days a month.

Of course toss into that the assumed cost of 11 bucks a cd.

100,000 cd's stocked figure 8 bucks a cd = 800,000 dollar loan. At 6% an additional 29 cd's a day need to be sold before the first nickle of profit. For owning a store what would be a fair profit a day. 400$ 500$??? Or should the store owner make minimum?
I am going to go with the lower number 400$ / 7 = 57.

So that music store in the mall has to push 110 cd's every day of the year at 7 bucks a cd. 10 an hour. Most mall music shops would seem to be able to eek that out maybe. but average 7 bucks a title would seem to be on the low side since I have not included advertising, electric, and other unseen costs.

Hmmmm i am beginning to wonder how much RIAA charges the stores??? I wonder how much whosalers, make per title, or how much advertising RIAA does.

Has anyone stopped to check the profit statement of RIAA. We can find out how many titles sold right, what was the profit RIAA declared and what is that per CD sold?
