Or would this be database trauma?

I think MatrixmaN was just starting this thread when the database "burped." There wasn't anything in here when I stopped by.

I really need help on this topic but that forum is a ghost town, modgods please excuse the multi-forum post but I know there are alot more people here, then there are there.

------------------------------------
REPOST FROM PRIOR FORUM
------------------------------------

I'm in a Predicament and I need as much of your assistance as feasably possible:

I've recently graduated from the Westchester Business Institute in White Plains, NY about 5 months ago with a 3.90GPA and an Associate Degree In Applied Science for Multimedia Development and Managment ala Summa Cum Laude by Age 19. I hit 20 in July and the years are piling on and time is growing short to get to where I wanna be.

Now my dilemma resides in the fact that an Associate Degree and the knowledge I've obtained are not good enough to get me to do what I wanna do and be what I wanna be to go where I wanna go. I'm also torn between 2 fields which makes my decisions even harder. I love 3D Graphics and Game Design which has been my primary goal since age 5, but while attending school I've come across adoring Video Editing and Special Effects.

I'm an artist by nature with an eccentric personality and deranged and acidic way of working on projects. My thoughts are pretty random and a low attention span always (ADD) keeps my mind moving thinking of new things, I play games obsessive-compulsively and thats why I want to make them, but creative special effects in video seem to have more creative freedom.

Schools I've looked into break my 2 loves into 2 separate, highly expensive majors to which I want a batchelors in at least one of them before I head to the job of my dreams.

My goals aren't that rich but it seems to be hard to decide how to get there. I want to make games, go to shows like E3 and Siggraph for a living, always seeing the latest technology and graphics enhancements while living a fulfilling life of fun and joy and constant creativity (too much to ask I know).

Now that I'm working at a full time job (I work bout 7 days a week, crap illustrator work & Data Entry mon-fri and caddy on weekends) I don't have time to study what I want nor do I have time to practice using the things I need to learn.

I can't decide whether to move out of state and leave everybody I know behind and start fresh in another state at a good college (to which I need your help on deciding) or stay in NY-TriStateArea with everybody I know and limit my career path severely. Costs of out of state colleges come into play as well as finding one that will have a backing because in 10 years I dont want people to say "I've never heard of it, where is it located again?", I wanna hear "Oh really? You went there, thats a great college".

If you can try to help me step by step if my post was comprehensible try to answer the numerous questions placed within this post. There are a few, but I think I went on a rant. I look forward to your replies because I wanna go back to college within a year to get off on the right foot As Fast As Possible.

Thanks Lots.

Don't let friends and family being left behind be a reason to not chase your dreams. Most successful people are that way because they took a chance. If you feel you're better off in a college in a different state, then do it. You can always visit family, but going back to school to get a better education ( more prestigeous college ) after you've done your 4 years is alot more difficult, not to mention that you already feel the years creeping up on you at 20! ( relax, you've got plenty of time to work for "the man" left! )

yes i agree if you need to leave home to go to school then do it. Not only will you get an education but you will get some valuable exp...
I went away to college, then worked for 1.5 yrs and then went further away to Grad school.. now I am back in the home area working at a very nice possition and setting up to move on up the ladder... GL and you are still young and remember mostly everything works out in time.... so dont sweat it too much think about it lists some pros and cons.. and then make your mind up its the best way to do it and you can always change........
