How is it that sausages never look cooked on thier ends

Because they aren't as cooked on their ends (unless they're boiled). It's all a question of geometry; you don't stand them on their ends to grill them.

It doesn't matter. They are cooked even tho it doesn't show.

The heat from the BBQ makes sure of that.
