Open presents on Christmas Eve?

Okay, my girlfriend's family does this and it drives me bonkers. Anyone else open ALL their gifts on Christmas Eve?

Nope. We do have a tradition where we open one gift on Christmas Eve though. My dad is a pastor, so we do it after the 7:30 and 11:00PM Christmas Eve services. Its always kinda fun. I wouldn't want to open everything tonight though...what are you supposed to do in the morning????? Although I don't think its something to get tooooo upset about. It is kinda funny to me though.

Merry Christmas!!

I did it a few for a few years when I was younger. Now I follow tradition and open whatever gifts I get on Christmas day.

Yes my family does. We open ours at my stepdads mothers and when we get home we open all of ours.

yeah we do - my mother's from n. europe so that always seemed to be the reason, but then as we got older we found out it's a tradition on my dad's side of the family that goes back over a 100 years - otherwise it would have been a bit unfair on the cousins

basically, the reasoning seems to be let the kids open up on Christmas eve, wear themselves out so that the adults get to sleep off the worst of it the next day.

Usually about 30+ family members sleep over at my grandparents' for the 3 days. TV banned. Food, drink, games, long walks in the country to get hungry/sober again and a lot of general pitching in in the kitchen

it's a blast but it's wildly different from what most of my friends did

due to working overseas, haven't made it back for the last couple of years - really miss it, but we made up for it here

I believe in the traditional Christmas. Even though the kids are now 16 & 18, we still don't even put everything under the tree until they're asleep.
And yes, believe it or not that still works to keep some of the "magic" in Christmas morning.

They've always pestered to open something on Christmas Eve, so years ago we started letting them open one - from each other.

Of course, at this age they exchange with friends whenever they choose!

My wife and I have always exchanged our gifts at midnight Christmas eve, untill this year. I think it was a throwback to before we lived together and each had our own family gatherings on Christmas day.

Well we're traditional round here, although I was a little annoyed when I friend opened her present early.....she loved it which is what really matters but u would think the 20 minutes I spent wrapping it with CHRISMAS PAPER would give the idea u open it on CHRISTMAS!.....

I'm with you Scott, I am a firm believer of the Christmas Morning routine. Actually the only gifts even under teh tree are the ones to neighbors etc.. Everyone knows Santa Clause comes while your sleeping the night before. This year was an exception, I'll be out of town and on a plane.

That's how I've done it too Ed, and of course there was my sons anual trip to the grocery store for his yearly box of junk cereal.
