Trying to set a record

Wish me luck, I am going to submit this tomato plant to Guiness to see if it sets any records as the largest tomato plant. I did a little research into this record and the largest is a 65' plant that was grown in a greenhouse using a hydroponic system. As you can see this is all natural. I added no fertilizer or plant food.

It is a cherry tomato plant and has yielded well over 500 tomatoes already this year.
I started to measure it with some string but it got too difficult when I started getting inside the plant, I was at about 20' at that time.
If you look you can see that it is ready to start growing on the porch roof on the left and is already starting to grow in the lilac tree on the right.

Not sure if Guiness will accept this or not, there is only one way to find out. Should be 8 to 10 weeks before I hear anyting back from them.

Thanks Socal , Vass

Socal - Yes they are very good. One thing with them is that if you do not get them on the right day they will split open because they are so juicy.

Vass - My thoughts exactly. I think it grew another 2 feet since last week. When I go out (daily) to pick the tomatos, I just shake my head in disbelief at how big it is. If you look in the lower left hand corner you can see another tomato plant. That one actually grows regular size tomatos, yet is substantialy smaller.

Damn!!!

korgul, buddy, send some of those splittin' juicers this way! I love me some tomatoes, sounds like you can afford to let a few of those bad boys go. That's exciting...I remember helping my grandpa in his garden, brings back good memories.

Good luck with the record...

Mike

Well Done Korgul!!!! Any idea of the variety? Seems like it might be the 'Sweet100' or newer 'Supersweet100'.

Tomatoes are basically divided into 2 categories as far as growing habits. Determinate and indeterminate. I always remember the difference by saying the determinate plants are determined to stay small. The indeterminate varieties can just continue to grow like yours are doing until frost. There were 2 (indeterminate) varieties that I've grown in the past named 'teardrop' and 'spoon'. The teardrop was a mini-roma type, whereas the spoon, well 10-12 could fit on a spoon. Both very sweet.

Hope ya get the record!!!!!

If ya get too many, you can always split em in half and dry em till leathery. Freeze or keep a few in some olive oil in the frig. Homemade tomato oil, add a touch of fresh basil, pour on hot noodles, garlic bread!!! But I'm sure the birds love em too!!!

BTW, you can take cuttings of tomato plants and grow them thtough the winter in a makeshift hot house or under lights. Tomatoes will propagate easily by layering too, just wrap some soil around a branch and it will start rooting into it, or bend a long piece to the ground and it'll root again, you can fill up your whole yard!!!! Attack of the killer tomatoes, korgul style!!!!

Thanks

I am not sure of the variety but I think it is

tomticus gowith fasticus

Not sure if this will help but the size of the larger tomatos are about the size of a quarter with the average being slightly larger than a nickel.

This has got to be the indeterminate kind cuse this thing is not stopping. I have to setup more makeshift tables for it as it is starting to hang to far off of the one that I have now.
