Verizon new 2-way phones.
Anybody try them yet? I have Verizon service and looked at them today as far as upgrading my service. I was going to go to Nextel after the portability thing went through Nov. 24th and all of a sudden, Verizon came out with it.
It is a little more expensive but will have a greater coverage area.
What do all of you cellular phone subscribers think? |

Jerry, do you mean they're like the Nextel phones, where they have that walkie-talkie feature? That would be cool.

I don't really like these phones because rude people use them in places they shouldn't. It's bad enough to have to listen to one side of someone else's conversation in a restaurant; now you have to hear both sides.
Sorry, JG. I shouldn't be thread crapping.

I do mean like Nextel's 2-way walkie talkie communication. The people that are rude in their 2-ways is because they have them on speaker phone all of the time. It can/should be set to private 2-way communication. |

Verizon isnt here in rural Georgia yet so I cant say. I do know that Alltel and Cingular are here and the sound coming from the phones anywere but the middle of Albany is pretty bad. Is the sound pretty good with Verizon?
May I ask: A "little more" expensive???
300.00 for the phones + 60.00/ month
OW, OW, OW!!
Thats more than $1020.00 a year, and the plan doesnt include the "extras" in the advertising-you should add about another $5-15 per MONTH depending on where you are for taxes, and "fees". As nice as the package sounds, is it worth a over a grand a year?
For me, its Way more than what I am willing to pay. I have 2 and I pay $20.00 per phone each month and I consider that too much for the amount I use the phones for.
Since you are a verizon user - what are the 'off peak" or night time minutes start? For Alltel here in Ga. they start at 9 pm and goes until 6 AM.

I'm gradfathered in for nighttime/weekend minutes from 8pm-7am. I'm still trying to decide between Nextel and Verizon when number portability comes around which gives me 3-4 months to decide. I need a new phone anyway, this one is 2 years old already.
I use my phone for business so the money isn't that big of an issue. I use around 1,000 minutes/month. |

the biggest issue is how much you'll actually use the service to off set the cost. I have several friends that have nextel but they don't use the 2way radio feature enough to offset the added costs of the phone and the service. Not to mention the fact that only a few people have them. Now if your talking about an entire company then its great.
Personally I never looked into the actual plans and the total expenses involved, I just went with AT&T's unlimited plan negating the need for 2way radio service. One thing I notice is its unlimited within your group but i see no mention of communication with anyone else on version. Double check the fine print on some of these deals and they don't always look as good as they sound.
