any legal beagles out there?

As some know my mother passed away the end of June. All has gone well except I am having trouble getting a check from a life insurance policy I held on her. I have filled out numerous applications, sent them 3 death certificates, phoned every number I can find and still no check. I was in contact with a Representative once, she came here and had me fill out one of the applications and took one of the death certificates. The check is only $2500.00 and I cant effort a lawyer for such a small amount. My mother was cremated and I would like to finish this process, ordering a plate for her head stone and burring her ashes etc. What can I do?

Hi, Ruby,
Well, I'm assuming you've been waiting for awhile, and the insurance company is trying to screw you. Otherwise, I've found that the most arcane and time-consuming function of any large company is the mystical "cutting of the check" ceremony, which requires Heaven knows what amount of time, plus we doubt it!

That said, you can always sue in Small Claims Court. You don't need a lawyer, it's cheap, and the judge listens to both sides and usually renders a fair "common sense" judgement.

Your only glitch is, you have to serve the correct officer(s) of the company. But ask around at the court, oftentimes you can serve by mail.

That action alone may put some motivation under their wigwam. Good luck.
