This house in Ranch Park, CA is going for a whopping $549k!!

From CNN Money:

Ranch Park, Calif.
Price: $549,000
Bedrooms: 4
Bathrooms: 2
Square footage: 1,341

Amenities: Hardwood floors, brick fireplace, remodeled kitchen and patio.

This is nuts! This house would go for around $80k here in Illinois. How on earth can the middle class afford to live in CA? I bet this house originally sold for under $100k. Unbelievable.

For a comparison, here's what you can get for slightly less in Topeka, KS.

Topeka, Kans.
Price: $539,900
Bedrooms: 3.5
Bathrooms: 3
Square footage: 3,400

Amenities: Granite countertops, cherry custom wood cabinets in kitchen. Oversized side entry 3-car garage. Iron stair rail and unfinished walkout basement.

I realize Topeka doesn't have the glitz of LA, but it also doesn't have the traffic, the smog, the crime, or the earthquakes. Of course there are those pesky tornados to worry about.

Last week when I was in Coronado,Ca(San Deigo are) I was looking at prices on house displayed in a Realestate office. THe cheapest house was $888,000. This house would not sell ro $50,000 in my area. The most espensive was around $3.5 mil, nothing fancy or big.
