Brocolli.
Normally I hate it, (childhood trauma ) but steamed brocolli just on the cooked side of raw is mighty good! Serve with a dollop of mayonnaise, OOOOOOOOOOH! |

So do I just put the rice into the steamer right on the bottom in the water with vegetables on top of the rack? My instructions aren't very clear with the steamer...sorry if this is a dumb, newbie question. |

Should be in the instructions, Mike. Mine has a container for water/rice, then put vegies or whatever on the rack.
Just be sure you have as much water as they recommend, as rice absorbs a fair bit and it might burn if there isn't enough.
In other words... RTfineM!
Cheers
Mick

Thanks, Mick! They do have a chart for the proper amount of water to use with varying rice amounts...my steamer has the "steam bowl" that I pour the water into...then the metal rack goes directly on top of that. So with rice involved, the water and rice would be mixed together in the steam bowl? Here's a link to my my steamer...mine is slightly different, but you can see the metal steam bowl and rack in this picture: http://www.1-kitchen.com/Aroma-Aroma...od-Steamer.asp

Looks like that's what you do. Found this info.
Enjoy!
Cheers
Mick
BTW, did you get the Martin Yan cookbook with it?

What's that? Steam with Yan? What happened to his wok?
I use a universal steamer. Just put water in the bottom of a saucepan, put the steamer in and fill it with your veggies.
I had no idea there was a seperate machine just for steaming!
Mine's kinda like this: http://www.surlatable.com/common/pro...?PRRFNBR=11069 |

How do you plug it in though?
