Any smoothie experts here? I just whipped up my first with my new blender. OJ concentrate, pineapple chunks, three bananas, and some ice. Came out pretty good if I do say so myself.

Any good smoothie recipes floating around? I prefer no sugar added and alcohol free. I make a mean margarita, but those are for parties. I need some good anytime recipes.

Pina Coloda mix ( non alcoholic )
Shreaded coconut
Pineapple chunks
Rum extract about a teaspoon or two
crushed ice

Adjust recipe to taste

P.S. I use 151 Bicardi in mine

Socalgal put one up awhile back, (I'm not sure if I recall everything in it,) but the emphasis is on protein, low fat, and vitamins. Plus, it has to be edible...

So she chops up a mango and a banana, adds nonfat milk and low-fat cottage cheese, and protein powder. Maybe something else also, but that was the main stuff. It goes into the blender on "annihilate" and it's pretty decent!

Actually, it's very good! If I had any brains, I'd have that instead of the big fat cheeseburger I prefer for lunch. Lose a few of these extra pounds!

Why, thanks Knot. umm.. wasn't that Mango and Cantaloupe that day? And I only use non-fat stuff - that smoothie I made totalled out to less than 1 gram of fat per serving. I'm thinking I should open up a smoothie shop and give ol' Jamba Juice a little competition

I use this recipe to help my muscles recover faster after weight-training. The egg, cottage cheese and Micellean whey protein isolate and potassium helps ripped muscle recover faster and the vanilla flavor works really well with the fruit, I think.

The Great Shakes - Recipes thread.

My best smoothie recipe, updated:

2 or 3 fresh fruits [frozen will work, too, for colder shakes]
1/4 - 1/2 cup nonfat milk
1 scoop nonfat cottage cheese
1 raw egg white [organic fed, cage-free chicken]
1 scoop Micellean Physique Altering, vanilla flavor [optional]
Sweetener to taste

Just blend, pour and enjoy. I don't use ice as I find that the ice makes the smoothie the less flavorful . Personal preference, I guess.

Refrigerate any left over in an air-tight container and use within a day for the best flavor.

*Experimenting with the fruit combos is fun and surprising. Some fruits you wouldn't think are good or good together - like grapes in the mix - turn out to be out-of-this-world great!

And don't let the cottage cheese and egg white put you off - you won't even know they're in there and you'll get a healthy dose of no fat protein! Of course, if you want more fat, throw the whole egg in.. I cheat sometimes myself by eating the yolk, it's really good. lol

Salud!

How many cups/glasses does that make, SoCal?

I never thought of smoothies as artful... My recipies usually consist of whatever fruits were on sale, whatever I picked wild, some lowfat plain yougurt and soy milk.

I picked 25 quarts of wild blueberries from a top secret location located on one of these Adirondack mountain peaks. Throw a half cup of blueberries or so into your recipies and drink to your non-cancerous life. Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants.

I've never been a fan of adding orange juice to my smoothies.

I haven't eaten a cheeseburger in over a year!

Hi Toady The minimum that will make is 2+ cups - quite a filling meal that lasts for hours [for me].

ohhhh Prex~ ! Wild fresh blueberries are to DIE FOR! I remember going out in back when I was a kid and picking bucketsful of them in our fields.. how I miss them. They're so expensive in stores that now mostly I forsake them cos they don't taste the same anyway

I'm not a fan of OJ in my smoothies, either. :P

Good for you on the skipping burgers for a year! I slid about a month ago and had one at a BBQ so... lol

You guys put way too much thought into this. I only make 1 kind and it tastes great every time.

-chocolate ice cream
-nesquik powder (not too much though)
-as much as milk as it takes to allow the blender to actually mix the stuff

If you don't have enough milk, the blades just spin real fast but don't actually move anything.
tastes great

SoCal's tombstone epitaph will say "damn, I should have had the steak and all-you-can-eat shrimp and hot-fudge sundae."

/me ducks.
