What are power co's up to?

Just saw a news interview of a Union Electric rep - subject was "could a major blackout happen here in the midwest?"

Anyway, the rep said that the energy problems are in the transmission of energy from place to place rather than in the production of power. She went on to say this is a multi-billion dollar problem which falls in the realm of "homeland security", and those funds should pay the bill.
She later said that, this being an election year, it's an excellent time for this to be brought to attention.

Put those together & you've got to wonder what the energy co's are up to.

Sounds like another industry queuing up for the pork trough. Hey, there are plenty of congressman-porkers in the midwest, should be enough to push this through.

Rather then paying for additional lines considering how much they make they want to increase the national debt to do it. Typical businesses.

You do realize that power companies don't have full control over their rates, don't you? The government has major influence in that. If they didn't, you'd have a 100 different power companies competing for your business and you wouldn't be able to see through the poles for power lines.
