Good/ Must See Day Trips From London

Looks like we will be going to London in late October. And I am looking for some feedback on some good or must see day trips from London. Preferrably under $100/ea.

Right now there are 2 that I am planning on doing:
1st- a quick overnight in Dublin, airfare is cheap and I loved my last visit there.

2nd- Day trip to Bath and Stonehenge, found a package deal via RailEurope for $95/ea. http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/pa...henge_tour.htm

So, what else should I be sure to go do? Won't have a car, so reasonable train or bus would be preferred.

Local suggestions would be great as well.

The next time I go to the UK I'm going to Bletchley park :-

I've read a lot about the code breaking efforts that went on there during WW2 & I would like to see the first programmable computer.

I'm sure some people can help more with personal info, but I caught part of a show on the travel channel that was the top 10 places to visit. They also have a section online about 'James Bond' in England. Just a couple of ideas to look into fer ya......

Very good idea, especially for the hardcore geek that SJ is.

A bit more info about where you will be based would be useful, especially to help keep the costs down. I recall you saying yiou had some accomodation lined up, but where is it?

Not that I can help much, as I've never been there, but it might help those who can!

Cheers
Mick

Oxford is about an hour by train (£30 return) or 90mins by coach (<£10).

There's also the Imperial War Museum at Duxford if you like tanks and planes. If you had any relatives in the 8th AF it's a good place to go. It's just south of Cambridge (so you could combine the two for a long day out) which is about an hour from London by train.

Also, within London you could check out The Science Museum and Natural History Museum. Both are free and will take you ages to see everything.

We were there last year. We took a train up to York for a day. Very nice old, old town. Great trip. Also, right from the Tower of London you can catch a boat to Greenwich. Awesome little village and the Observatory is way cool. You can stand on the Prime Meridian. The Observatory tour is well worth the time. The village below the Observatory is loaded with bookstores, nic-nac stores, and great restaurants. Canterbury is also an easy trip and well worth it.

Agreed, the Observatory and museum is well worth a visit!

Also things like The London Eye or the Tower may interest you!

If you give some pointers as to what kinda things you like and roughly where you are staying, I can get links, distances costs etc!

London would be an amazing city to go visit. I am still dreaming of visiting the UK.
Don't forget the camera.
