Beware of Tracfone prepaid cellular...
Just wanted to give a heads up to some of you to beware of Trafone prepaid cellular. They issued me a # not local to my area and now want to charge me to change it. I have sent them e-mail regarding this and am waiting for a response. Sofar, everyone I have talked to has said they will not fix it without a charge.
I will update when I have more info.

Wow that's a bummer. My wife has been using Tracfone for a few months now without a hitch. |

Hi, Siliconjunkie, I have to wonder why they did that....do we understand that they gave you an area code that was outside your area (dang right, that's a problem) or just a prefix that is unfamiliar to what you have now?

Yes, they gave me an area code that is not in the local calling area, it belongs North of me. So, to call it from my house or work it is long distance.

Did she buy it @ a place outside the local area? Was it bought @ a Gas Station or at a dealer?

I'm sure this will resolve with a few calls, and I hope the joker who saddled you with this gets his sorry butt fired! Good luck, SJ! |

Bought it direct from TracFone off their site. They dont assign a number until you get it and activate it.

Another big problem with SJ's dealings with TracFone is that most of the customer service reps there have been speaking English for about 10 minutes.
Thick accents are no good when dealing with English speaking people.

Well, it is in the hands of Visa now. No replies from E-mails, still no resolution on the phone. We will see what happens when Visa calls them to dispute the charge.
