Tell the temperature by listening to crickets. The cold-blooded creatures perform their functions faster at higher temperatures, so the warmer it is, the faster they'll chirp. To find out the temperature in Fahrenheit, count the number of chirps within a 15-second period, then add 40.
Learned that in the Boyscouts about 40 years ago---never checked it against a thermometer although im sure it has been a zillion times---bugs are COOL!
that will be hard in italy, because there are so many of them, you cant count it because all chirp at once, you cant here the difference from one to the other but that's pretty interesting thx!
