Summer Blockbuster Flops blamed on SMS
Apparently Big Entertainment is blaming the flops of its summer blockbuster flicks on Short Text Messaging Service. The word of mouth is getting around too fast, it seems. Guess they'll try to jam a law through Congress to outlaw that too.

I don't know how they EVER thought Gigli would be a summer blockbuster.
T3, Hulk, The League, etc... Sure but Gigli????!!!
What were they smoking?? And where can I get some? I love some peoples perspectives on things.

Simple, word of mouth can be the best publicity, or the worst enemy. If the movie is good, word of mouth will bring more people to theatre, a bad movie will disappear quickly as it should.
Only those responsible for making the movie are to praise or blame.

Yes, praise the grapevine. Keep those crappy movies from taking us for our hard earned dough.

SMS should make the movie companies produce better product, if anything. That would be nice. If they know they can't get away with releasing a bad movie with lots of hype because of instantaneous word of mouth, then they will be more obliged to make better quality flicks. |

I don't believe that text messaging is the reason for poor sales. Poor sales are due to poor movies. There aren't any good new movies out. The market is flooded with poorly thought movie ideas. Sequels for the sake of a sequel (charlies angels, terminator3, spykids3d), remakes(freaky friday), and generally bad ideas (gigli, uptown girls).
The only good movies this summer IMO were pirates of the carribean, The Hulk, and The matrix. they were generally original, or original takes on the story type, and were directed & acted very well.

Ok, ya got me.
I never even heard of Gigli.
If I never even heard of it, it don't count as a blockbuster, flop or not.
