Have you ever donated your books to a Library?

Oddly enough, despite having used the Library many times in the past, this thought only recently occured to me. All these books sitting around here that I don't use, I'm takin' them to the library today. I've been hangin' on to them for no real reason other than not wanting the hassle of trying to get decent money from them by selling them online, and not wanting to throw them away as they are good learning material. They're mostly college books, but they are far newer than the educational materials available at the little library here in town.

Just thought I would share this with everyone in the hopes I might enspire someone else to do the same, and make extra shelf space to boot! (all use geeks need all the shelf space we can get!)

PS: They often take software, movies, and magazines as well

Funny you mention it, I just moved from a 2400-sq. ft house to an (anticipated) 2 bedroom apartment. I had a library that totaled 26 boxes when packed. I kept my favorites (about 8 boxes total) and donated the rest to the local library.

I got a very nice tax deduction for it, but the coolest thing was visiting the library a week ago, and seeing a couple of those books on the shelves.

It gave me a very happy feeling, knowing those books will continue to instruct and amaze a whole new bunch of people.

I didn't know Playboy could be borrowed from the Library..

I kid, I kid because I care!

I have donated a fair few books myself, but that is because I just don't have the space to keep much

I've donated tons of books. Sometimes they end up in the library's book sale. No problem there as long as the library gets the money.

Another thing, do any of the Libraries you guys go to have audio CD's? I remember quite some time ago seeing music on CD at the Libary. But the last Libraries I've been to had no music. Is this a new restriction, or just a fluke.

And it does feel good to donate to them. Most of my books are tech related, so their lifetimes are limited anyway. Now perhaps some others can use them before they become historical archives on "How the caveman typed"

I had the complete collection of Louis Lamour books when I was a kid.... read them all a couple times..... and donated all of them to the local library.

Alot of other books have been donated throughout the years too. Donating to the Library is a good thing. I think the local Library is a very underused resource alot of times. I loved going to the library as a kid, it was one of my favorite places

[little voice on shoulder whispers:]
"get all your old games, software, books, movies, and music and take it to your local library. And maybe even buy a couple of new items just to donate to the library...like a copy of "Trinity and Beyond" or some PBS videos..."
