The Cost Of War

Interesting:

Not sure what the margin of error is, but if the data is coming from the Congressional Budget Office it shouldn't be too off.

Puts things into perspective really.

But Bush knows what a large budget deficit is, right? hmm...

What was the cost of 4 planes crashing into the WTC 911?

How many people lost their jobs, lives and so on. The hysteria induced recession cost how much from the stock market?

My guess is that that is in the trillions. Just another way to look at it

A question answered by a question:
What is the cost of not going to war?

I don't think it IS relevant. It was the Al Queda coalition, based in Afghanistan, led by a madman, that planned the 9/11 attack.

We are fighting in Iraq. The only connection is a vague resemblance in culture/people, and the fact that there's lots of sand and camels in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Good enough connection for some folks, I suppose...

First, two planes crashed into the WTC.

Second, the question presumes that going to war prevents such events.

The question has many answers, including making sure one wages the right war. Invading Iraq, that had nothing to do with 911, took resources away from Afghanistan, that had everything to do with 911. The Taliban are getting back more control over Afghanistan every day because the U.S. is preoccupied with the occupation of Iraq.

Moreover, the war on terrorism requires the help of other countries. Because of the devisive Iraq war, those countires that we need to help fight terrorism are less likely to aid us now.

The bottom line is that even the U.S.'s vast military resources are limited and therefore they must be used wisely. Wisdom is a test of intelligence not testosterone.

Reagan's use of war in Lebanon in the 1980's did more to create terrorists than bin Laden did. If you were too young then, the battleship New Jersey indiscriminantly fires car-sized shells into Lebanese neighborhoods as a 'show of force.'

War->piss off other countries->more terrorism

This war on terror thing isn't really helping to diminish terrorism in the world. What US needs to do is to change its foreign policy, not go around creating wars here and there.

Funny how that number just about coincides with the $$ amount estimated to bring our electrical infrastructure up to snuff.

Ah well... who needs electricity to fight terrorism.

I bet another tax cut would fix it tho =)
