Car Audio System

I am thinkin about this set up for a 1978 El camino(I love these cars. Shut up I know what you are thinking.)

2x 12" 1200 WATT SPL SUBWOOFER(160oz magnet)=$190
1x Pioneer DEH-P5500MP cd/mp3/wma=$180
2x Pioneer TS-A6880R 6" x 8" 4-Way=$75
1x POWER ACOUSTIK SPL 1600 WATT 2 CHANNEL=$180
Total=$625

This with the sups gettin the amp and the speakers each getting 50 watts form the reciver.
Or should I do 1 15'' SPL with a 340oz 10inch magnet(these things pound like mothers)

What do you guys think of this?

Are you wanting a massive bass overload that will completely drown out all highs and mids? That is what your building...

I would opt for the two 12s, bridge them to 2-ohms in custom enclosures, preferably ported bandpass if you have the room to spare, or perhaps tranmission wave guide if you have the patience to work out all the math.

What am I thinking? I don't even know what 'el camino' is, except it's a car.

That doesn't sound too expensive, if the price tag was something like $2k I wouldn't understand.
Putting more money in the audio system than what the car costs looks really silly, you're not living in the car or anything.

I envy your prices.. A pioneer deh-p5500mp costs something like €400 here.

If you know how to do it, it looks nice - though the speakers take up much room

Well I definetely am a fan of Pioneer HU's and even CD changers. Speakers? Well it depends what size, but I am definetely a fan of Infinity. (I could list other speakers that are high price if you like. )

*EDIT* Let me add that you will notice a price difference between Pioneer and Infinity speakers.

Also.. Where were you planning on getting this stuff?

Pioneer receivers are decent quality, currently running a 120w Pioneer head unit in Firebird. Sounds good with...

2x 10" LA Audio Subs
MTX 2200 2-ch. amp
2x 6x9 MTX 3-way
2x 2x6 Horn tweeters

Pioneer speakers are good for mid-range, but don't expect ear piercing highs without a couple of true tweeters. The tweets on 4-way speakers are often too small to ever notice.

No comment on SPL, as I have never used any SPL branded equipment.

You have the basics for a good bass system. The only part that really bothers me is the amp. What are the full specifications? A quality 400w amp will cost you around $300-500, so beware the 1600w rating.

Well I would like to push about at least 400-500 watts in each sub. What is a good molde of tweeters. Planning on getting some of it off ebay stores and some off a site onsalenow.com.
