How much did you spend on your computer?

Ok I totalled up the costs of the computer I built....

AMD Athlon XP 2800+
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
1024 RAM - 2x256 MB Corsair, 512 PCG DDR PC2700. 333Mhz
ASUS A7N8X-X nForce2 Motherboard
19" Samsung CRT Monitor
Chenming 400 Watt Clear Panel - 6 LED Fan Case
60 Gigabyte Hard Drive
52x ASUS CD-R
Sony Floppy Drive
Logitech Optical Mouse
Logitech Keyboard
---------------------------------------------
$1,019.99

I'd say thats a pretty damn good price since that exact same setup sold for $1600 on Alienware

Macs are way to expensive for sucking as bad as they do.

3700 before any software does seem a bit steep, but I won't pass judgement on the PC mac issue because well honestly I don't know jack about Macs except that I tend to not like the styles advertised on TV. I have absolutely no idea how much mine costs itemized. It's a perpetual upgrade. Probably sunk about 500 into it when I did the last main overhaul. That was a year ago though. I'd say the while thing itself, monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers is probably around 800 or 900. Oh incase you are wondering it's:
1.2 GHz Duron
pioneer slot DVD drive,
80 gig HD (Maxtor)
512 PC2100 (crucial)
Logitech MX700
Logitech wireless keyboard
A couple of Cathodes
LED fans
bluish case with window
Logitech Z-540 speakers
turtle beach sound card
TI4200 (8X and 128 meg flavor)
350 watt PS
17 inch viewsonic monitor

Okay now that I am listing all this stuff I stuck in it I think I might have dropped a little more on that. It's hard to keep track. I'll probably do a totally new one in a year after I'm out of school and working.

Hard to say for me. I started out building a 486SX/33, and upgraded it bit by bit, going through a 486DX, P200MMX, Celeron 300A, P3 500@620, Duron 700, Duron 1G to what I have now:
AMD AthlonXP 1700+ @ 1.62ghz (147mhz FSB Multiplier unlocked but not changed)
ECS K7S5A with onboard LAN (rev. 3)
512MB Crucial RAM (PC133@147)
Coolermaster X-Dream Heatsink (on CPU)
Pioneer 16x DVD ROM - Slot loading
8x4x32 CDRW
Samsung 48x CDROM
Creative Sound Blaster Live! 1024
Samsung 30gb hd
WD 40gb hd
Fujitsu 20gb hd
Ati Radeon 32mb SDR (180/180)
Longshine Ultra-ATA controller (CMD-649U chip)
350W PSU
All running Gentoo Linux of course.
As you see, I have some good parts and some bad (most notably the mobo and gfx card )
But now I have some DDR, I can upgrade to an enthusiast-class board again. If only I still had that KT133A board, but the caps blew up.
