Washer Problems

Hey guys, this is definately not computer related, haha, ok here's the issue:

I just got an old washer installed in the house I rent, and it works and everything, however when I set the settings for high water level, it fills up but never stops "Trying" to fill up. It is constantly pouring more water into the tub and never gets to that high level. And the water is not draining out of the back at all, its just not filling up to the high level. But when I turn the knob to medium level it worked, but then once it drains and starts to fill up again it does the same thing, constantly putting water in and NOT filling up to the medium level. So then I turn the knob to low and it works fine. Even when I do a fresh start it fills up to the low level and just does it's thing, any suggestions?

Also I should note that the drainage pipe is actually strecthed straight to the drain, it's strecthed b/c the electrical outlet is far from the pipe so both extentions are stretched like this:

<outlet>----wire-------[washer]------tube------<drain>

wierd I know but could it be syphoning?

I think you need to loop your drain hose so that it forms an "air gap" at the top, similar to a dishwasher installation. The hose shouldn't just run straight to the drain. If it's not long enough to do that, get a longer one!

Is the drain below the level that the high setting fills it to?

There's a selenoid that opens during the drain cycle , it's probably not seating all the way. Or the controller has a glitch. Can you return it for another one ????

you have a syphon Your hose can be either in too deep, or your drain pipe is too low and you are syphoning the water out.

Extend the length of the drain pipe. see what happens.

Also, if you did the plumbing, did you put a p-trap at the end of the drain? if not, you're house will stink.
