Concert ticket prices ..... What a RIPOFF!!

Here's what I've paid recently:

The Eagles - $175.00 each .... bought 4 - OUCH!
Steely Dan - $110.00 each .... bought 2
Cher - $110.00 each .... only bought 1 for wife (wild horses couldn't drag me there )

Let's not forget the concessions beer $8 (small), coke $5, souvenir t-shirts $30 and up, parking $10, and on and on.

No wonder CD sales are down. At these prices your lucky if you can put gas in the car to get home let alone go out and buy the artist's CD.

My first concert: The Rolling Stones in '65 or '66 - $ 6.50 each.

Bill

Yup, I skipped going to see Fleetwood Mac.....$150 for a good seat.....$50 to pretty much sit in the restrooms.

Ummm...Sorry

Also skipping Ozzfest.... (money better spent getting myself ahead, instead of lining someone else's already deep pockets)

Too bad you can't get tickets through Kazaa

What do you expect? The promoter is probably Clear Channel, the largest radio station owners in the nation!

I paid $2.50 to see the first Greatful Dead concert ; $3.00 to see the Doors; $3. or $3.50 to see Hendirx on his 3rd US Tour; same for Clapton on his first US tour with Cream, etc. I was part of the original Fillmore Auditorium crowd BEFORE the late Bill Graham got into promoting!

I went to a Metallica concert when I was in college (1993) and I got a scalped ticket for 2/3 over cover price. In all I paid $37, and I thought I got royally ripped off. Good concert, but the price was high. I haven't been to any concerts except those of live bands in clubs since then. Wild Horses could not drag me to pay those prices for any concert.

I'm feeling pretty good. Paid $67 for Springsteen in 99 and $75 (I think, no more) in 02.

The wife and I saw the Blue Man Group in Vegas. $93 ea. They are going to be here in the DFW area in 10 days. It will only be $43 for the best seats. Las Vegas is so great...

They only charge what people will pay. As long as some folks are willing to pay the big bucks, the ticket prices will continue to climb.

They won't be seeing any of my money, but that probably doesn't bother them.

I saw Joan Baez for free at Club 47 Mt. Auburn. (Coffee was expensive, though...)

That is an excellent point, now if there was only a way to get people to all realize if we STOP paying 200 dollars per ticket they will stop charging 200 dollars per ticket. Most of the concerts I go to have a face value of less than 20 dollars, often around 10 to 15 dollars. Ticketmaster makes me pay about 30 bucks for it in total and I bitch and moan about that. I don't really see the point of going to a large show, Metallica for example, to see a band from hundreds of feet away play a few songs. The concerts I end up going to have MAYBE 300 to 500 people there if even that. I'm glad I'm not a huge fan of the music put out by corperate rock bands.
