Gaming In the Navy!!!

Hey everyone! I enlisted in the Navy today!!! I have been working out everyday since October to get down to weight and body fat% and it paid off today. Thanks to four years at the University of North Texas (I know our football team is...well....not good) I will go in as an E-3 and my field is Aviation Electronic, Electrical and Computer Systems Technician. I am so excited about it that I am even looking forward to finding time to finish my degree and possibly go Officer. I have "officially" been out of work since May, doing computer work at my church and some work for a friend who does Boronizing. My last year at school was terrible because I didn't know what I wanted to do, and I hated my job as a Resident Assistant. (BTW, if you are a student living on campus, BE NICE TO YOUR RA!!!)

So here I am, getting ready to leave Jan 16, 2002 for Great Lakes, IL. I can't wait to see snow and be cold for once! (It was in the 60's today in D/FW) I can't wait for my job training......in Pensacola, FL!!!!! Then I get my $14K signing bonus and I get to work on some really sweet Navy Jets. I'll miss you guys while I'm at boot camp, but I will still be with you in spirit!

Timbob

Hey Timbob, I wish you all the luck and success in the world! Keep in touch. I work with two ex Navy AE's and they said the training was great. They both enjoyed their time in the Navy.

Man....I do pretty much the same job in the army (I am an electrician/armament technician on the AH-64 Apache) and I didn't see a one cent of a bonus. And in fact, they thought that the job that they were offering me was such a sweet deal, they made me sign up for 6 years instead of the usual 4.

You got a sweet deal TimBob. Congrats!!!!

Best of luck to you. I did the same thing about 31 years ago.

No they didn't have sailing ships. But we did have steam turbines and black oil fired boilers. Our computers were electro-mechanical units with vacuum tubes and we all bought Akai reel to reel tape players when we made a West Pac cruise.

I picked up some pretty good skills which have put food on the table ever since. I also picked up some attitudes and memories that will never leave. I wouldn't want to go back, but I wouldn't give those years up for anything.

My avatar shows #2 turret of the old USS Newport News CA-148 cutting loose on South Vietnam.

Be safe

AWESOME!

Serving your country - IMO - is one of the best things one can do for yourself. I'll be saying something similar 1 year from now (leave for Basic in Army).

Where's Navydood when you need him? He works on aircraft.
