Goodbye TECHimo
Well, after much though, I have come to the conclusion to end my participation in TECHimo. It is a sad day, but I have lost much respect for Scott W. This has not been a easy decision, as I have followed Scott W from way back in the old SYSopt days.
But, and for some reason I bet this post wil be deleted, I find the high handness of the mods in dealing with individuals who disgrace themselves on this forum in very different ways disturbing. Why are some banned, others left to romp all over other's feelings without even as much as a slapped hand.
I, as all Americans (or at least all who beleive in the Constitution and the bill of rights, the TRUE patriots) have a opinion, and when I, or others are chastised for not having "the proper opinion as dictated by the current goverment" then that is a daming inditment of exactly what is wrong in this country right now. Conform or be cast out, it seems, reminds me of a RUSH song from long ago. I agree with everyone that says none of has the right to offend another, as I certainly do not have that right, but we do have a right to our own opinion, to voice that opinion in a respectful way, in a free society. TECHimo has always been touted as a "free" forum, so why not now?
Certainly there are subjects that beg a special concern and require tack. I have seen that on all sides, but I have also seen tackless replies by everyone involved, and it seems that, at least in my opinion, those who dare to disagree with the current patriotic (although highly questionable as trult patriotic when held up in light of the Constitution) "official govemental story" are cast out, while those who don't dare to go against "the official story" are free to run roughshod over anyone disenting. I can no longer buy into this. I can no longer in good faith have my name associated with this ignorance of thought.
For those of you who shall say "good riddence" well, sorry, it is truly your loss, for in your ignorance and ingnoring of the true facts, or in the least knowlege OF BOTH SIDES means that you cannot make a informed decision, with the final result that when you come in contact with someone who in knowlegable, you look very uneducated in your stumbling around trying to justify even the slightest of what you profess to beleive in.. Sad really, we as Americans have the highest standard of living, the best country in the world, and should we also not be the most educated?
Take care one and all, David |

Sorry to hear that, David.
Sad to think that differences of opinion can break up families so easily, but that is reality, isn't it?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and not just leaving with no trace.
Cheers
Mick

Sorry to see it David.
But... it ain't the Mods fault that this jazz is happening, it is the people who are posting.
A few points, if I may:
1. The Mods here are dealing from a weird position: They have all kinds of responsibility, but in actual fact, very little actual power.
If a Mod has to modify or even delete a post, they get accused of "censorship" or worse. The idea here is to let people say whatever they want; unfortunately, there are those people who just like to "rattle the bars" and see how much they can get away with. What a waste of their (and our) time.
If that Mod decides to "let it go", then they get accused of "not being fair"...and let's face it, the person who feels this "unfairness" is usually the worst "bar rattler" in the bunch!
2. I keep seeing this, over and over and over...people writing stuff like, "...blah, blah, blah... Mods please delete this if this is not to FAQ's..." What, like you think they're following you around the board, just waiting to see what oozes out of your little golden fingers? As if they have nothing better to do?
And why did you write it in the first place, anyway? And why can't you take responsibility for what you write, instead of sloughing it off on a Mod?
Please do grow up.
3. Things like TIMO Community go in cycles...well anything that has a pulse goes in cycles! Some people say this place is not so much fun anymore, some people say this place is too permissive, some people say the Mods are too restrictive...etc....
Some people are just fulla poop. I say, stick around, and if this place is not to your liking, then do something creative and constructive to make it better. Excelsior! |

thanks Knot, i just started out as a mod and even know we try out hardest to not be the mod squad who do evil. this job is alot harder than it looks. We try our best to have as much free speech as possible, but there are certain guidelines members should follow as this is a family site. Free speech comes with a price as even know we are in America Scott makes the rules and we should follow them
Sorry to see you go

Well said, Knothead. You have a way with words. Ever thought of being a politician?

Well that sucks.
But it's not the mods fault.
Over the past few months, I no longer write long winded posts because frankly, I don't feel like it . I'd go into depth more if it wasn't for that.
IMO, it's just the natural progression of debates for people to become dissatisifed with each other as tentions build. Woohoo. Still trying to find out where a moderator fits in. But hey, you aren't here to debate but to bid farewell and won't hold it against you.
Read Knotheads post and be merry.

Sorry to see you leave. I ask that you would reconsider. It is unfortunate, but it seems that that is the road that too many here who Quote: |
the proper opinion as dictated by the current govermen

| Said in jest I know... but FYI dmanlyr has been a somewhat passive member here since mid-2000. I don't think the fact that he is lacking in posts makes him any less of a member. Maybe moreso of a member in some ways. You have to wonder how many of those such members pull up their roots without saying goodbye.

Sorry to see you go but as has been stated, there's only so much that can be done.
Some people believe it's up to the moderators to clean up/delete their posts for them. They can stir up all kinds of trouble and get so many members upset and starts some flame wars.
The easiest thing to do is to only go in the tech forums or stay away from anything political in the community right now. That's what I do. Especially being Canadian, I have a lot of views that many people would disagree with and start flying off their handles. So I don't comment because things tend to get taken out of context more often then not.
People have strong views and are willing to defend them no matter what.
